AT Pro or the Eureka gold

witch of these metal detectors will better suit me .. iam looking to do alot of gold hunting soon and relic and coin hunting ... iam a novice with a detector.. and also ill be in the water when iam hunting for gold mostly in creeks in the area in south carolina there are alot of hot rocks in the area were the hunting will take place.
:hot:

Well, I wouldn't want to coin hunt with the Eureka Gold. As a pure nugget hunting detector, I'd have to give the cap to the Eureka.. for anything else (though you can still nugget hunt with it) I'd go for the AT Pro. Hunting in streams/rivers, I'd go for the AT Pro for the simple reason that it's waterproof. Yup, you can 'bag 'n chest-mount the Eureka, but that makes it hard to adjust controls and you still have the prospect of leaks if you take a header. Don't know about your streams'n such, but up here it seems that nearly every rock is covered with slippery slime, so it's not a question of IF, but of WHEN you slip and fall in. ..Willy.

Forgot to add.. I don't think that the coils on the Eureka gold are waterproof, just water resistant. ..Willy.

sounds to me if i should go with the at pro ... iam taking a chance of falling in the water there are often deep pockets of water ..... but on the other hand will the at pro pick up the small nuggets or should take in considerasion the infinium ls should i go that route... :goodnight: :stretcher:

I had an Infinium for a couple of years, got sick of it (sold it) and then decided to try it again.. no dice. If they were to get rid of the horrible dragging tones and put in an 'Iron check' button I might go for it again. For coin hunting.. forget it. If I can find my test nuggets I'll see what the AT Pro can do. Just got it 2 days ago and the weather is miserable. One big reason I got the AT Pro was for nugget hunting in the water and coin/jewelry hunting in the lake. You might also look into getting an MXT or GMT. I like to have at least 2 detectors in case one goes on the fritz. ..Willy.

Infinium is good, but has its issue's-I have one-its deep-its cheap-its waterproof but its not VLF-its a elephant gun of detectors-hits big deep stuff in horrible ground conditions,. .....

The AT PRO is more sensative to small gold-there's some guy with a video-soil 92-and with stock (big arse coil) he was hitting a 1" nugget no problem.

Im still debating the goldbugpro or AT PRO. NOW there is a Sniper coil for the AT-PRO is sure looking better(better built thats for sure)

Im hoping they will update the AT PRO soon and make one with a thershold based all-metal mode???? Come on Garret - lots of people want this feature!
Im waiting abit see what happens. Not sure this will happen soon but I could see in the future.

I have hunted with Garrett detectors since 1980 and they used to be good. As for gold nugget hunting, well they are crap. Garrettdoesn't put forth the research and development like other manufctures do such as Fisher and Minelab. I bought a Infinium in 2005 and found five nuggets with it, but the machine started to become very noisy most of the time. I then bought a Minelab GPX4000 and wow what a difference. I then sold the Infinium and bought a Minelab x-terra 705 to get the tiny gold that the Eureka Gold can find, but find it deeper. In my opinion Garrett has fallen behind years ago when it comes to gold nugget detecting and in my apinion have not awoken from their slumber. Minelab is the leader in detecting. They are serious in their research and development. that is why they are the best. The x-terra 705 is a pro level detecto for prospecting for gold and also hunting for coins and relics. In the case of a detector that can find nuggets, coins, relics and can hunt submerged in the water, well I don't think anyone has a really good detector to handle all those criteria yet. Whites are not user friendly and people Iknow who have them don't understand them and have sold them. i will have to do some research on this new Garrett AT Pro, but I have my doughts about it, at least for hunting nuggets. I heard it is 15 khz. Same old garrett technology from the 70's & early 80's.give me a minelab any day.If you are serious about hunting gold nuggets. Get a Minelab.
