ATPro US vs International

When I sent my ATPro International to Garland for the upgrade in November the tech inadvertently changed it from a International to a US version. Now the only difference I have been able to determine between the two versions is the change between the high and mid tones with the US version running between 75-99 high tone and the Int'l version running 50-99 high tone.

Garrett has admitted they erred in changing it and will correct it at no cost to me but my question is, do I really need to do that? I could understand if I lived in the UK or Europe, but in North America it shouldn't be necessary and I prefer not to ship it across the border unless it is necessary, besides I kind of like seeing INCHES rather than CM and having to convert in my mind cm to in. I was brought up in feet and inches and still prefer it to the metric system. Too old to change I guess... Any responses appreciated...

The International Model will alert you to Canadian Clad faster then the US model, because some of the fresh dropped dimes & quarters beep at fluctuating VDI's of 40-80's. It will high tone more often on Canadian clad compared to the US version. If you only hunt relics and old silver/copper coins, then it isn't important.

Thanks John, I think it was converted to a US version when I sent it in last April for falsing, they just didn't change labels or the faceplate until this trip. My change point between mid and high tone has always been at 75 and not 50. I think I will leave it as is and save the hassle of shipping across the border until sometime down the road when and if it is needed.

I wish that Garrett had made the high tone break at 50 for the US version, instead of 75. That way, nickels would sound off as high tones, and, if you're a relic hunter, most minie balls would ring as high tones. Taking it a step further, what would really be great would be to have the option to specify in your machine's setup which numbers you'd like to have ring high. Don't get me wrong, I love my AT Pro, but I think that this would be a great improvement for a future model.

That is true, I have the US version and I've learned to hear modern quarters, toonies and loonies for what they are.....grotty junk sounds. But it's got a bit of high tone mixed in so I have learned to dig it.

They sound totally different than foil or bottlecaps. Bury some in your back yard and test it. You'll understand.

I do understand that grotty sound because that is the way it has always been with my ATPro since its return last April. So I have had the US version all along, just didn't know it until now. I am used to the way it operates and although Garrett says they would return it to a International version I will leave well enough alone... Cheers...
