Is anyone on the forum able to correlate the old "audio 1" term with the new descriptions for the modes in the SE?
As near as I can tell, the old "audio 1" is equivalent to the "long" mode. There is also the smooth mode (which is described as a 'filtered long') and pitch hold.
I tried all of these on my first outing (see previous post) and so far, normal seems fine to me....but then I don't know what subtle differences to listen for yet.
From what I have read, though, it seems that it might pay me to try the "deep" mode in some old formerly productive sites again. Combining that with "long" "smooth" or "pitch hold" might be too confusing for me at this point, as I'm still a long way from mastering this machine.
The only other pitch associated detector I've owned was a CZ-6, which only gave three pitches...low medium and high. The SE has made this a whole new world...
My brief try with these other modes seemed to make for a broader sound from the target, and right now I'm used to listening for 'narrow' sounds on desirable isolated single targets. Do these other modes increase the advantage on locating good targets next to junk? I know its hard to describe certain detector sounds to others....I came up with the term "muffled whump" a few years ago, to use when telling others what to listen for. Amazingly, most knew just what I meant! LOL
We detector people are a strange and wonderful bunch!
Our club does have a seasoned Minelab user as a member but that person is very closed mouthed about sharing any experience or settings with others...every club has one, right? I guess my hunting buddy and I will have to discover our own 'truths' through trial and error...probably the best way in the end!
