Automax Pinpointer

Bob,
This is the stock pinpointer that Kellyco offers for free when ordering an MXT etc. Most folks on this forum will trash this pinpointer.
But for me I have had good success with it. I now use a Bullseye pinpointer and am hoping that Santa brings me a DX-1 probe from Sunray...
The bad part about the Automax is it's size. It is large and hard to carry and handle. "BUT" I liked the on/off switch and I bent out the clasp so it fit on my belt. I would carry it in one hand with my digger and could leave it on all the time. THAT part to me was convenient.
The Bullseye is nice because of it's size. It will fit easily in your pouch or shirt pocket. I don't like the on/off button that I have but some folks say the newer ones have a switch. It is also sort of sensitive that requires manual adjusting internally. I have learned how to adust it and now this is all I use.
If money isn't an issue get the DX-1 probe from Sunray.
HH,
Johnny B

Have one and it works, but I don't trust the power switch. Cheap plastic rocker. Might replace it this year with a small toggle or push button from radio shack. Also, the battery clip don't like Energizers. Works OK with Duracells.

Dec. will be good to me too. I have a Garrett 1000 PM right now and it does a great job. Having a pinpointer would be a plus. I have been reading the posts on here because of the all around great info. and i`m also interested in the MXT. The MXT will most likely be my next detector. This seems to be the best all around detector for the price and the prospecting mode would be exc. here in Colorado. Well happy diggin and thanks again.

I use the auto max and it does a good job, goes beep! when you get it near the target

until the cheap On/Off switch died. That and the size were the only things I didn't like about that pointer. It is a very sensitive pointer, you have the option of using either vibrate or audio alert and it's easy on batteries.

I use the automax,it is large but works fine. I am on my 2nd , the first one broke right at the base of the probe,I was not using excessive force when probing with it but it did break. Kellco did replace it for free , so i have no complaints. Just don't jam it in the dirt too hard.
Good luck and HH

Hey Bob, don't waist your time and money on the Automax Pinpointer, get yourself a MERLIN Pinpointer. They sell for around $69.00 at Clevengers Metal Detectors, they have an 800#, but I don't have access to it at this time. Free shipping, the pinpointer sound off and has a flashing light, its compact, rugged, and well made. You can find Clevenger's phone number in their ad, in Western/Eastern treasure Mag., or Lost Treasure Mag.
I also use a Vibra-Probe 560, well made and good company to deal with. You can get one for around $100, waterproof to 35', floatable, and come with a carrying holster. Shop around for the
best deal on the Vibra-Probe 560, believe Clevengers has a very good price, free shipping.
Both of these pinpointers will get about an inch on a coin, which seems to be the standard, unless you go for a high dollar pinpointer like the ones produced by SunRay or Detector-Pro, which will get 3-5 inches on a coin sized object. Hope this helps you, lol,hh.
