Finally,
And me without the camera. Kind of anti-climatic but I will post a pic as soon as I get my hands on a camera. I believe this one is photo worthy.
Did some detecting at a construction site, found a section of sidewalk out and got a nice hit outside the edge of the walk. Nice upper right hit. Found it with the periscope about 4-5 inches down, it would have been over a foot if it wasn't for the excavation for the walk. Saw a bigger dark disk in the dirt; thought LC at first but too small, then picked up a glint of silver and a reeded edge. And lo and behold I saw the eagle on the reverse and flipped it over to see not a seated but a bust quarter. 1838- the last year they were made.
Finding any bust coin has been a goal for quite some time. Didn't think I would break my cherry with a quarter. I did some night detecting with a headlight and ended the evening with the quarter, two barber dimes 1892, 1903-O , 36-D merc, 1920 Buff, and 5 IHs.
This is also my oldest US coin to date. Found a 1839 LC earlier this spring. Hope to break in to the 1810s or 20s sometime soon. Phil(IL) got one in a local park last year, I'm sure others have too but that is getting pretty old for our neck of the woods.
