Back from Guatemala report (a bit long)

Were back,
Had an incredible time, being the hands of Christ. Did lots of good stuff.
We did some light construction and painting at a school called Palencia. It is a Small Christian school that is in a town with a huge witchcraft problem. Our work there is part of our comitment to have an ongoing presence there and to be a becon in that area. The school has grown from four class rooms that housed only 2 grades (K and 1st) 5 years ago. To now having up to 4th grade and expecting God to allow the addition of 5th, and now have 4 more usable class rooms. Awsome
We then traveled to the port area and worked up in 2 of the low mountain jungle comunities. There we put on medical and dental clinics. This time around all of the Doctors and Dentists were Guatamalin, 3 of each. Most of the support positions were handled by Americans, dental assistants, admiting, pharmacy and the like. These are ongoing clinics and are in this area 1 or 2 times per year, depending on financing and need. Although the need is always there.
I had the incredible opportunity to be a part of a pilot program involving the distribution and education about water filters. Several of us hiked through the jungle trails to the homes of the local Q'eqchi people (Mayan subdivision). This was VERY cool, as we had very personal interaction with these beautiful people. After some edcuation about the types of things that live in water and why they should have filters (even with water runing through pipes from higher up the mountain), they became understandingas to how this could benifit them over the long term. The families were selected by the head doctor and the elders from each comunity. The criteria were who was most likely to use, care for, and continue to come to the comunity clinics when there. They went to young and old alike, comunity leader to young married and poor. Side note here is that poor in this circumstance is relative and only one or two families out of those I visited even came close to a standard that approached middle class. However, by the local standard we had been to 3 or 4 houses that were run very successfully and prosperously, by God fearing people I might add.

It was very gratifing to see friends and places that I have been praying for, for 4 years and see the results.
We had the good Graces of God allow us to have seen the power of healing prayer, over night. An old woman was sick went to the clinic and after seing the docs was prayed over by 2 of our younger prayer warioriers, 16 and 18 y.o. young ladies one U.S. and the younger from Guatemala City. They say she prayed harder than either of the 2 girls. The next morning when we delivered her water filter, and after training, we asked if we could pray for her and if there was anything specific. Well now... that is when she told us what happened the day before and said she was 100% today and her prayer request was for thanks to God.

Here are a couple more
Two of the jungle trail and one of the huts complete with running water and it does have electricity. Typically they run one light bulb. What I can't understand is how they pay for the power. You can the see the only water faucet outside the hut.

Last a picture that proves I am still just a boy at heart. We did find a little time to sneak in some fun.

Looks like ya all did a lot of God's goodness while there and always good to have some fun! That water looks cooling....sure been hot and humid here in my area of MO! Going to get even hotter and the weather news says the next few days will be the hottest we've had yet! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Thanks Ma
That water was as warm as the air for 3 out of the 5 days we were at that spot. It was 90 deg plus and better than 90% humidity. The last 2 days a good wind blew steady and blew some cooler off shore water in. The gentle breeze further inland was helpful in the heat of the work day.

VERY, VERY cool! I admire you for letting GOD lead you to help out these people! Loved looking at your pics...post more if ya can! I have such a heart for these people...Travis and I had hoped to be able to a adopt a child from Guatemala or even Colombia. Unfortunately, The Hague Treaty (and political bologna) make it next to impossible to give the children a home they so desperatly need. So SAD!

What a great mission trip. Keep on working for the Lord. The pay isn't much, but the retirement plan is out of this world!!!!!

Mike that's fact

Liz how long ago did you try to adopt out of Guatemala? I ran into some old friends early this year and they had just adopted 2 kids from Guatemala, and a couple from church had about 4 years back.

Here are a couple more for ya Liz (and every one else)
Me and some of the girls from Palencia, and the colorfull busses

Look real close. The board the spider is on is 21/2 to 3" across

Nice pics and the spiders (Large or Small) can stay in Gautemala because I don't like them any more than I do snakes! May God Bless! Amen! Ma Betty

Jeff-We started getting serious about adoption in 2005. Looked into Guatemala at that time....things were just starting to head south then :( We have good friends who adopted in 2005 from Guatemala and had a great experience. We ended up deciding to try for an infant here in the states...what a gamble. Sometimes I still can't believe the miracle GOD gave us, but it was all worth it in the end! I would still love to adopt again one day as Loren begs for a sibling. I just can't handle the 35,000 price tag right now. Thanks for those extra pics-they are great. Could have done without the spider though.

So glad you went. I think all Christians, if possible, should go on a missions trip. I was part of a mission trip where I could not afford to go, but I turned it over to God and if He wanted me to go I would. He gave me the finances to go. The Lord will provide.

Liz ,Glad it worked out.

Dk, where did you go?
