Back from the beach!

Hi All,
I got back from my beach holiday last night, and back to work today! (7 days a week for the next 5 weeks! Not happy about it!) The weather was great one day, rotten the next, and the wind and flies drove me nuts. But I detected a heap of sinkers, I couldn't fit them all on the white paper for the photo! Detected 46 decimal coins of a total of $14.37 cents, bullets, buckles and a matchbox car. The coins were concentrated in an area of about 40 feet round. But my favorite find was a silver ladies ring with 8 zircons set. One big carat, and 7 side stones. It was 9in deep, read loud and clear, I thought it was a crown cap before I dug it. (I also fished, caught myself a 30 pound stingray and two snappers! The stingray took me 15 minutes to haul in, I had to use a gaf to bring it in!) Wishing you all the very best in the new year! Happy Hunting!
Cheers Angela;)

Well done Angela. Like you I don't live near a beach but I've just been told about a spot on a nearby river that was a popular swimming hole for a number of years so I might give it a go. I've only had my Quattro a couple of weeks and am still getting used to it. Have spent he last couple of afternoons at a school in town and so far have about $30 in decimal currency. There should be pre decimal coins there too but have'nt found any yet. I've had a few really deep signals indicating a coin but the ground is that hard I can't get to them. I'll have to wait for some rain. Great looking ring. All the best for the new year.

What do you do that you have to work 7 days a week.

You did ok at beach Angela, enough cash to cover the cost of bait, plenty of sinkers and a nice ring to top it off. Hope to graduate to working beaches some time soon also.
John

Great haul there Angela. You're such a tiger. Keep it up and that's a nice ring to boot. Man, do you ever work hard at this thing. To me that's a really good sign. You keep that up and you'll succeed big time. I tend to get lazy sometimes and you know, that one time you get lazy, could be the "big gold ring or whatever" you always wanted. Keep sharing those pictures you send. It's so much fun to actually "see" what your pulling up. Sincerely, Marc Trainor.

Well Done ! Angela.
You seem to have the quattro mastered!
How long did this pile of finds take you?
Sorry to keep hounding you with questions, but what settings did you use on the quattro. Im still finding it hard to work this machine out?. The other day i was mucking around in the reserve over the road, i was detecting for about five minutes. When i got a deep sound i dug and dug and dug and followed your instructions after about 5 minutes i found taa-daa, a small washer at about 16" deep. Boy this detector can go really deep! (which sometimes can be a pain!).

Hi Ken,
I aways find that after a good rain, target signals seem to be easier to read, generally louder and clear. Maybe water seepage around the target loosens the soil, if only a minute degree, but enough to generate a better sounding signal. Or there could be another reason why. Don't know. Just a feeling I have on it. I'm looking forward to going back to that spot where I found all those coins. I hadn't finished detecting the area, and now regret not staying there. I'll make better plans next time!
Cheers Angela:)

Hi Bobbie,
My husband manages a tourist gold mine in our town. During the school and public holidays and the weekends, we work seven days a week there. We put through the mine about 13,000 visitors a year. The rest of the time, I only work weekends, and occasionally at a local hotel, with chefs or waitressing, or in a cafe. So I still get plenty of time off for detecting primarily!!! (I make sure of it!) We do have a relief tour guide that helps us out, usually on Mondays and Tuesdays, our days off. Just for interest's sake: we currently have had in the past two years a mining company doing exploration drilling in the area, and were in our mine last year for 4 months. Tourists could watch the drilling rig at work! It was a first time for us! Currently the company is preparing for channel sampling (or strip sampling of the quartz reef in a section of the mine that we don't take tourists into. Hope I've answered your question!
Cheers Angela:)

Hey Gary,
Love that cute little flag at the end of your post!!!
At the beach, I used All Metal mode with no discrimination. I found I didn't need to use the saved mode much to verify targets (as explained in my Dec. 17 post to you). I find the beach easier to detect in as most places don't have alot of trash, other than your pulltabs or crown seals. I used the 10.5in coil, shovel and gold pan sieve. My hubby and I met up with another guy from the area, he used a Soveriegn GT, and found a silver dolphin ring in about half a hour. It's nice to meet up with others who share our love of the hobby!
By the way, some of the sinkers were about 2 and a half feet down, the sand was caving in on the sides, and to be truthful, I gave up on one target. It just kept sinking down further in the wet sand, I couldn't dig fast enough!!!
Cheers Angela:cheers::ausflag: Hope I'm not getting patriotic here!!

Hi Marc,
Hope your hand has fully recovered from the dog bite! Thanks for your post. I was actually hoping to find a bit more jewelry, but I suppose you can't rush these things! I'm glad to be back in the town of relics, but hope to take another week off straight after the school holidays are over and head back to the beach for more detecting. I think I'm going to need it. I already feel worn out what with all the tourists! I do the countdown every day, probably shouldn't you know, not good for me psychologically! So getting on this forum is a way of unwinding. I love reading everyone's posts. I get a lot out of it. Sometimes, it's quite humourous!! Happy to hear from you again, and thanks for all the encouragement!
Cheers Angela:cheers:

Hi Angela!
You can get as patriotic as you like. Australia is a great southern land and i'm proud of it. The rest of the world is in caos and turmoil but good old oz still keeps to it's self and plods along. I would'nt live anywhere else in the world!
Keep on detectin' and post your finds Angela Your a legend!
Cheers Gary!!!!

Thanks for your concern Angela. Yea,it's healing up pretty good, thank God. I was really worried about the rabies or tetnus thing, and if it ever happens again, I'll follow the guy back to his car and get his license plate # just in case I need to check on if his dog had his shots or not, etc. Found out animal control here can run the plates if they need to, but everythings fine and you keep sending those posts and great pictures. Your such an inspiration to everyone, including me.:|:geek::yo:
