I have not been out much since Labor Day. There are many reasons that I won't bore you with. I got out for 2 1/2 hours this afternoon. Lots of cool finds. 12 Wheat's. I had dug them all and wondered where the silver was. It was getting dark and my head lamp was back home. (Funny story here. It was on my cap when I went to the store and the clerk got very indignant with me and asked why I had a camera on my hat and why I was video taping her. I showed her it was a light, took it off, and stuck it in my pocket, forgetting to put it back in my truck.) Anyhow, my final target was the Merc and I had just enough light to find it. A decent date and my first silver coin in about three weeks. 1926D. Other interesting stuff was an old Romper Room ring. One of the girls who starred on that show was my next door neighbor when I was a tot. I don't remember which affiliate she worked for but I think they had versions of the show in most major cities. It reads "I'm a Romper Room Do-Bee." A junk bracelet that is engraved Chrissy, almost my name. Two religious medals from the same hole. Pewter, perhaps. A silver "C" (my initial again) pendant or piece of a medal. Not marked but easy to tell its silver with a bottle of test solution. Finally a ring that might of might not be white gold. It was inlaid with opal which was chipping away and blackened. I did a test for gold for a laugh and it came up 10K. The problem was that the opal and the glue made the test solution go bad immediately. I cleaned away what I thought was a big enough piece of metal to get better results but only got a quick 10K signal and then it popped off again. I am going to clean out everything that is not metal to tell for sure. The stones are old, chipped, and discolored anyway. It is very light.

Here's one thing that has been occupying some of the time I would have spent detecting. I am very fond of The Beatles but I'll never be very good at this game. Still loads of fun!

I celebrated a successful hunt with a sack of White Castles! That might have been the best part of my day.

Beaucoups Stuffs!
Those items you found with personal connections are favorites.
Looks like a fantastic venture out.
Those things that come out of the ground are tangible.
Those things that come out of the video game intangible.
Life is all about balance.

p.s. Let me get this straight, You like The Beatles because "The Stones are old, chipped, and discolored anyway."

I always appreaciate cunning word play.

Chris

The Stones are great too. (Not the opals.)

Alright!:clapping:Nice hunt!:thumbup:Congrats on the great finds!
I love The Beatles and The Stones, but lean heavily more towards The Beatles.
Funny, because I've seen The Stones in concert several times. Seen Paul McCartney once.
Then again, The Stones come around alot more often:biggrin:Happy Hunting!:)

It looks like you are doing very well Chis. Congrats on the gold/opal ring. I was only talking to a chap on half an hour ago about opal hunting Lightning Ridge is only a 4 hour drive away. It is the only place that you can get black opal; the most highly sort after opal.
I've got a week off this week, so should get a couple of good hunts in.
Mick Evans.
P.S. We had Romper Room over here in Oz when I was an ankle biter too. Just a bit of trivia.

I saw Paul twice, tours before and after 9/11, and the Stones three times, Tattoo You, and Steel Wheels. Paul was amazing. How a guy can get up on stage with just an acoustic guitar and hold 40,000 people spell-bound is unbelievable. His voice is still as good as ever. Mick Jagers voice ain't what it used to be. I'm glad I got to see him and the Stones closer to their prime.

That ring might be platinum. The gold test is weird. My silver acid test disolves everything but it won't disolve whatever this ring is made of. I ground out all the remains of the opal. I should have just left it alone, I suppose.

I had a few other hunts this weekend but the loot was so average I didn't post.
