Back in detecting, but need help...

New member
I am a new member to the site and am interested in getting back into the hobby. I did this back when I was 14/15yrs old (now 35) with my father in Massachusetts. I left the hobby and my father stuck with it. Well, my father recently passed and I received his 2 detectors, a Whites DFX, Eric Foster Goldquest SS V2, and a whole bunch of different coils. Back in the day I owned an XLT. Below is pics of what he left behind. I know pretty much about the DFX but not so much the GQ 2. Most posts online are like 10yrs old and I want to know if it is still desirable with the new technology out today. I posted pics so jump in and tell me whats good and whats not. Thank you!

Sorry to hear about your dad, thats not good news.

Regarding the detectors, the DFX looks to be in very good condition and still a very capable machine, out of those coils for the DFX,the white colour ones are the best ones out of the bunch and i would say the most sought after, the Polo coil is a Hotshot coil which is a very good coil, its a shame that the other one was not the much more desirable 18'' version as that would have commanded a very high premium price as they are pretty rare to find these days.

The GoldQuest is also the most desirable detector out of those 2 and especially sought after by the beach detecting folks,if its in good condition and i see no reason why it should not then that should also be a good buy for someone.

So basically some of those items are very desirable and some are just average, the 2 white coloured coils and the DFX are the best from that bunch and the Ereic Foster Pulse ceretainly is a sought after machine.

Thank you for the reply Mega. I know my Dad spent a long time getting a hold of the GQ. I think he had it sent to him overseas. I tried to find out as much as I could but it seems not many people own them. Last question, It seems people tell me that they are not fans of PI detecting because of all the scrap they pick up and most just ditch them fully later on. How does the GQ compare to others or is it in a league of its own? Again thank you.

The GQ is in the premium league, that is why it can command a premium, yes it is a Pulse machine but its possibly the best one for beach work, made in the UK as i understand and new prices are very expensive and because not many come onto the market the ones that are up for sale command a decent price.
