Back Mount Excal II

Patriot

New member
I've seen some back mount instead of chest mounting. Can the Pluggers chest mount harness be reversed or are these set ups homemade? I myself would rather have the controls behind out of my way. I'm getting a new Excal and need advise.

iv done both and like the back mount much better.here is one i made from a Minelab battery harness and Pluggers belt.this is the best set up iv had.

How does one use the controls with one of these setups?

Maybe I am missing something here but...Why would you do that ?
When you want to put it in pinpoint to home in on a target it could be comical

This is a set it and forget it setup. No going to pinpoint. x the target. This is probably the most ergo way to carry the Excal. The weight is on the hips and legs. No banging it with your scoop. I must admit that this way works better with skinny people. And is really a summertime setup. Clothing can make it hard to do.

well i only need 2 controlls...on/threashold and sensitivy....but i know what every knob is behind my back.access them with right hand behind your back or left hand depending if the knob you want to adjust is #2 from the right or #2 from the left...i never need pinpoint or discrimanation...i think a lot of people over use the pinpoint and switch in and out of disc way too often and ware out the switch's when you dont even need them. the only time i need to change the sensitivity is when i go in the water or out..other than that i only use 1 knob all day on/threashold.

hummm ok let me chime in on this, i walk the beachs and im always changing my threshold and sens,so setting your controls and not resetting them while your hunting,id say your missing allot of targets too, the sand changes from wet to dry and the make of the sand,so youll always need to make some tweeks here and there as your hunting. i use pluggers chest mount assy,i also had my pp/disc switch on a hand grip too, so it makes it allot easier to hunt too,mel parker did this for me..so again if you not wanting to readjust your settings as you hunt and miss targets well keep doing what your doing..
hope this helps

Gday :ausflag:

Of course use what works best for you
I am no expert but, I have to agree with John
I went out today (3rd day of Spring hereafter a long Winter) and had a sneaky soft little signal so I put it in pinpoint and cranked up the Sens
. ...the signal became more definite and said "dig me" ...it was a deep coin
I actually change Sens. & Threshold as I hunt quite a bit too
anyway, happy swinging backwards or forwards ;)

Dear minelab,
As you can see there are many modifications to your product,if you can just listen to your customers and simplify these machines that are produced, for example take the sovereign and water proof it, you would probably have a machine I would try, other wise I' ve seen to many modifications or fixes to make it comfortable or worth while for me to purchase. HINT Make a sovereign top notch. The tube thing is just to heavy and clumsy.
Sorry guys no offence to anyone, it may be a deep seeker, but I just can't get myself to buy this if I have to modify it and spend more money, believe me I would like to buy, but the cost to have this just doesn't pay with too many modifications or issues
There was a design made up not too long ago that was posted by someone here and the ideas were awesome ,I would try something like that

I am a customer (I have 3 excals) & I like them just the way they come from Minelab That design that was constructed had more flaws than fleas on a stray dog. I don't think Minelab is losing too much sleep worrying if you buy one or not

I don't have a problem sacrificing light weight for great build quality. I think Minelab detectors are about the best when it comes to quality of build. jmho

Just reach around your back & adjust the control knobs.....all you have to do is memorize what each knob does & where it is ....It's so simple a Cave Man can do it LOL....Tab.

NO modifications are required to use the excal. I chose to make mine a land machine, so chose to spend ~$30 to build a straight shaft. Like so many users say, it is a wonderful machine and you, marbien, are missing out if you don't use one! I use mine on land, in water alike and wouldn't trade it for any of the other detectors I have used in the past.

just to re chime in on this thread, i just came back from a week long vacation in myrtle beach,i got to hunt everyday i was there, last Thursday i went on a 6 mile walk down the beach,i ran into several other hunters while i was walking, i ended up with 3 rings 1 silver and 2 gold rings along with the usual clad and junk, but i was very comfortable walking with my Excalibur 2 on my chest and a straight shaft, camel pack full of drink and my long handled rtg beach scoop, it was hot out and lots of targets, but while walking i had to change sens and threshold allot, this helped as i was going from soft sand to hard packed sand to wet sand, all in all i was very comfortable,i just had wore my self out from being out of shape and overweight..i ran out of drink so i stopped, but you go out and try walking a good distance with machine on shaft, you ll stop quickly, for myself this setup works great,i understand it might not for others,6 mile walk...thanks for the water offer Jim Robertson,i should have taken one with me..lol..
i had a great time
hope all does better than i did
