Good day....bad day. I went back to the spot where I had that incident two weeks ago. I checked in with the police officer on duty and it was the guy who witnessed my incident. I thanked him for telling the truth about the other deputy and we chatted for a few minutes. I set off to detect and it started out slow. The coins started coming and then all of a sudden folks began driving into the park and making a bee-line over to me. I was friendly and stopped and chatted with them all and a few asked me if they could watch me dig something out of the ground. A few others asked me if I had permission to detect there. I began to think I was being set up for something but I suppose I was a bit paranoid. The incident of two weeks ago came up twice in conversation and I asked if they had previous knowledge of it. Both said no. Both also asked me the bad cops name and I refused to give it. I told them I would rather focus on the good folks who helped me and not the offending deputy. One guy asked if it was Deputy __________ and he was right so I told him so. He said he grew up with the guy and that he is a decent fellow. I replied he wasn't that day but that he might have been having an awful day and I didn't want to nor would I bad mouth the guy now that everything has worked itself out. Then the guy identified himself as a school board member and I asked about detecting at the schools. He said he saw no reason why not and I told him I had already detected most of the local schools with their Principal's permission. He was a nice fellow. He might have been merely a curious bystander but I think he came to check me out. He gave me a few more spots to try and I genuinely liked talking to him. The real problem today was that I was at the spot for 4 hours and only got to detect for around 2 1/2 hours because of all the curious folks. I got a tip on a lost gold ring but this place is huge and the guy wasn't sure exactly where his wife had lost it. I took his name and number and promised to return it if I found it at some later date.
Rain forecast for the next 3 days and I'm 171 away from 10k in calendar 2008. Maybe next weekend. I got my 2500 on 9/28/07 so it has almost been a year. I have found way over 10,000 clad coins with it 8 gold rings, 1 gold chain, 2 gold pendants, 38 silver jewelry items, 21 silver coins, 1 gold coin, 112 wheat cents, 2 large cents, 1 IH cent, 1 Shield Nickel, 1 Ike Dollar and on and on and on. Total value of around $2200.00 and that is being very conservative. I must say I am completely satisfied.
Here is the swag from today. The flat button looks really old. Radio antenna is different. 92 more clad coins. Today when I decided to quit I said one more coin. It was a quarter. I then said to myself I would detect until I found something that wasn't a quarter and proceeded to find 7 quarters in a row. I finally got a nickel hit which turned out to be a Canadian Quarter. 9 quarters in a row might be a record for me. I then found a penny and headed home. This hunt ended up being heavily skewed with quarters but I spent a long time in an area where there is a concession booth that uses quarters almost exclusively.
