Backup Detector

Metal Hunter

New member
In your opinion(s) what Minelab detector would make a good backup detector? My primary detector is a Minelab SE Pro.

Thanks for your help & Happy Hunting,

MH

Another explorer. Once you use an explorer, anything else is just a noise maker.

X-Terra 70. A great backup and would make a good primary machine for someone who can't deal with the weight of the explorer.
Has great depth and operates much like the Explorer. It also has a prospect mode and 3 different frequencies by changing coils.
3 kHz concentric, 7.5 kHz concentric, 6" DD in 7'5 or 18.75, 10" DD in 7.5 and 18.75 and an elliptical 18.75.
Light enough to hunt all day with NO fatigue.

I don't have a suggestion on a backup detector. But, I would think you would want one that offers some features or characteristics different from the Explorer. Why buy two the same thing? That would be like buying two big screen tv's for a one room apartment. Get one that is lighter, faster, less expensive, waterproof, ...

I have a 70 that I use along with my Explorer. It goes just as deep here where I live and is great for fields since it likes a faster swing.

Thanks for your help!!!!

I am going with the X-Terra 70 for $849 from KellyCo since it comes with two coils and it can be used for both coin/jewelry/relic and prospecting. I really would like another Explorer but I decided against it because of the cost involved. My current Explorer cost me $1,700.00 because I would have to have the goodies that go with it (Sun Ray Probe & Sun Ray 5" coil).

Happy Hunting & God Bless <><,

You don't need to buy all of the extra goodies for an explorer. If your explorer goes bad you just switch the probe and coil over. Shouldn't take more than a couple of minutes to walk back to your vehicle and do so.

Gives you something new to work with and makes hunting a little more interesting. Besides, The prospect mode and lack of weight is something the explorer dosn't have.

I like the idea of having a back up explorer in case my current one goes bad. It's about 10 years old now (bought it used several years ago), and it is showing it's age. I would hate to be out on a good hunt and then have my machine go bad on me.

I'm not arguing against an xterra. I'm just saying in my case I would want a back up explorer in case mine were to go bad due to old age and taking such a beating over the years.

...almost exactly 1 year ago. i wish i could trade it for another Explorer!

(interchangeable accessories would be a big plus)
