Barber, Buffalo, and Indian...oh my!

Spent four hours last night near the roller coaster area sifting through a cacophany of all types of targets...All three older coins were less than 3" deep but had nails in the hole with them. A few of the larger brass and bronze targets sounded like winners with steady VDIs and solid repeatable signals

I thought I had been over the area before where I found the Barber and buffalo - the two coins were about 6 feet apart. Was running a program especially for the fairgrounds which blocks out surface level and shallow iron signals almost completely...I used to get a lot of falses with deeper large iron but this program seems to help with that. Have been finding coins closer to large deep iron signals - reactivity of 3 helps to separate the goodies from the chaff....

BADTRASH
Sens = 88
TX = 2
Reactivity = 3
Silencer = 1
8kHz
Iron Volume = 0
Full Tones
Disc = 2.0
Notch 0-10.....53-60....97-99

I've used this program twice...maybe 7-8 hours total...near the old roller coaster location with super results! Somtimes it takes hours to find old coins but once you find one, it seems like others in the immediate area raise their hands and show themselves (wierd I know). Another program I use for the less-trashy areas lights up deeper targets but is more sensitive to large deep iron:

COINRELIC
Sens = 93
TX = 2
Reactivity = 1
Silencer = 2
8kHz
Iron Volume = 1
Full Tones
Disc = 2.0
Notch = 0-8......97-99

I keep the 50s and 60s open on the notch for this program because sometimes Civil War-era bullets can be found here. Besides the regular 3-ringer .58 cal bullets which register around 63-67 in 8kHz; some smaller caliber rounds will ring in between 55-60 and I don't want to miss those.

Very nice! I have a bunch of trashy spots I will try this in. I assume you're using Manual Ground Balance?

GB is on "tracking" the whole time but I have to keep a close eye on the upper right-hand number display. It tends to drop into the 60s in thick trash, but I've got to where I can tell when GB is off by the sound of the background chatter. A simple toggle between programs to my 4 kHz "bottlecap IDer" and then back resets GB to 90. Im guessing all the deep iron tries to throw off the GB. Tried once or twice to run it manually, but it tends to want to drop too low for stable operation near the roller coaster areas when "manual GB" is used...maybe Im doing something wrong here. The less-trashy areas where I use the "Coinrelic" program - the GB usually stays in the mid80s and I keep it on "tracking" there as well...and rarely does it drop below 70.

Is there a way to lock GB on a certain value? Near the coaster area I'd like to run between 85 and 90 and just leave it there. Maybe I'm overlooking something on the GB menu...any thoughts? If I could lock GB on one number, it would save a little time with having to toggle back and forth when it gets too "chatty". Any info appreicated!

Hey CZ-

That's what Manual GB does for you! Just set it to the value you want, and you're locked in. So am I missing what you're really asking for? In my trashy parks that GB will show values of 64 - 86. There are some parts that really are more in the 74 range, and some that are more like 84. So I'll adjust manually when I see it trending to one end or the other.

What happens a lot of the time is that I will set the detector down to retrieve a target, dig it, and then get up to continue searching and notice GB is nowhere near the value when I set the detector down in the first place. Can using the pinpointer within 2-3 feet of the coil throw off the GB? I'll have to try manual GB in the areas I pulled these older coins, maybe tonight I will get that chance...

When you set the detector down try laying the coil down flat on the ground while you are digging. Your coil is probably standing upright on edge and not able to read the soil.

Cz,
Select GB with the right top button.
Toggle to Manual with the center button if not already in this mode.
Adjust the ground reject level with the + & - buttons to the ground mineralization you want.
Exit GB mode with the top right button and you are set to hunt.

Pg. 17 in your manual.

Good luck & HH
