Barber Half and Sadness

Chiloquin

New member
Got out today for a little while trying some tips from Andy's book. I live in Oregon and have several old parks in my town that have been hunted for the past 20 some odd years. The park was a camping park in the late 1800s and is now the major park in the town. I have been hunting the park steady for the past year or so and have found a couple silver rings and a lot of clad. Today I decided to hit a part with some old trees that I have not hunted before. I started going slow and trying to pick out the good signals from the iron when I heard a faint repeatable tone in the 70s. I could tell there were several iron pieces near it but the signal dropped when I switched to my 4kHz program. I started hitting roots from the about two inches down and did not stop until the coin popped out from about 9" down. This is my first silver half and sadly, I nicked the front of the coin trying to get through a root. :rage:
If you do not have a copy of Andy's book, I recommend getting one soon. I have been making some great deep finds since getting the book, and this coin is just the icing on the cake. Thanks Andy for such a great resource for Deus users. HH

Dude! Thats a helluva trophy against extreme odds! :surprised:

Dont worry about the nick, it gives it character and tells a little about the fight you went through to get it! Beauty coin, great job on your part, honest post and pics!:please::please: I dont have Andys book or a Deus for that matter, but this is one sweet find you should post on a couple of diff forums, lots of people are deciding on what new detector to buy this winter.....Like Metal detecting and Todays finds...you Deus swingers have to get out a little...just sayin'...good post.

Nicely done. I think with these higher end detectors it's more about finding the one that clicks with you or that you can learn to click with. Andy's book is a great jump starter for a new Deus user like me.

Thanks Mud and biggziff. I had to pick my jaw off the ground when I saw it in the hole. I'm super stoked for next weekend. HH

it happens. . .
and it will happen again! :)
Trust me, I have experience with these things. . .
nice coin!
Still waiting for my first Barber Half!
thanks for sharing!

Thanks for all the replies. It is amazing how small adjustments to this machine can make huge differences in detecting depth and sound. Can't wait for next weekend. HH

I appreciate the positive feedback . . . I am glad the information is helping people get the most out of the Deus and I do want to reiterate my thanks to all those that contributed to the book as it was being assembled. The wealth of information received and compiled is what makes it a worldwide reference document.

Thanks for the feedback many of you have provided . . . . keep posting those finds . . . that Barber is sweet . . . and I always tell myself that it was probably scratched when it was lost
