Batteries in MD

Well-known member
I have a minelab ext 505, I know they say to take them out if nouse over a week. Would this wear the batt door out or the batt contacts. some times i leave them in the MD and turn it on 1 or 2 time a week if I do not use it. is this causing any harm to Batt box or machine.

Quality AA alkalines shouldn't cause any problem by remaining in the detector between uses. If you aren't going to use it for several weeks, I'd take them out just to eliminate the possibility of the batteries leaking inside the housing. As to wearing out the battery door or contacts.......I'd recommend that you hold some pressure on the door when you release it (don't let it pop open) and slip the batteries in horizontally instead of dropping them vertically. I guess my recommendation is to treat it like you would any other piece of high tech electronic gear. JMHO HH Randy

Thank, you.

What Randy said. If I do not hunt for 2 or 3 weeks I don't pull my batts. Much longer than that and rather than pull the batteries I just use the unused MD. Of Course I run the Xterra and the SE enough for that to not be an issue.
