Battery plug help

Maybe someone had this problem and will give me some advise on how to fix it.. Exal is new about 2 weeks old. I don't use it all the time It's my backup. today I notice that the 3 prone plug that you push into the battery pod doesn't go all the way in so that the black rubber gasket seats flush. I attached photo and hope it attaches itself.
It looks like right behind the silver nut is a space that really needs to meet flush with the black plug itself. There is a very small screw in back of the black plug if I loosen
that will I be able to tighten the silver nut ???? Being that it still is under Warranty I don't want to leave it for a month or two. So if it is easy to fix I would like to do it.
Any help will be grateful !! It say my photo was uploaded but I don't see it ????

I just found out that it's no problem doesn't really have to seat !! Water can't get in anyway ! I should have known that. My mess up ! Dah !!!

I believe that gasket is more to reduce electrolysis. Water wont get in unless you have a cracked pod. I make my own using thicker rubber and a leather punch just because it reduces how tight you have to turn it...... which can lead to a cracked cap.

Thanks Dew
I will make up the difference like you did. Sounds good to me. Did you remove the original washer and replace it with a thicker one that you made ??

Yes...... i got the rubber from ACE hardware in the auto section for gaskets. Used a bridal punch for the holes and a leather punch. IMO those thinner gaskets are one reason we crack those caps. The thicker ones allow more threads..... and by the way once you tighten the cap down that gap you are showing goes away. The prongs on your new cap are tight now. Later on you may find they loosen up...... and with years of use to tighten them again you may have to spread them gently with a butter knife.

Thanks Dew I will take your advise. How did the rubber come. Is it a square or round. Is it a washer with a hole in it or a solid piece of rubber ??

Thanks Did you remove the original was ??
