The Minelab gold machines require a motorcycle size battery and the ATX uses only AA batteries. Why the difference...
 
Well.....you are attached to a battery on the Minelab, but not on the ATX. The ATX readily takes rechargeable AA batteries, cheap to replace and can be charged in a car (lighter}, solar panel or regular power outlet at home. You can also use regular alkaline AA batteries. The ATX is water proof to 3 meters, the Minelab is not, so you can hunt in the rain, the surf, under water, fog, or snow without any worries to the metal detector or batteries.
