Beach Detecting with the 305

Got up at the crack of dawn this morning as it was a low tide and I really wanted to see how the 305 was going to do. I read last night on some pointers in using this at the beach and was very pleased after I got it dialed in. I hit low tide with the 305 set at program 1, sensitivity 7, GB 15 (GB is pretty much useless in wet sand regardless of the setting from Ive found out). I did try all metal but it was spitting way to many signals that were so erratic it was difficult to determine what was going on. You wont be able to pinpoint in wet sand, I swept the coil over the target till I had a general Idea on where the target was located and just dug. It hit signals very well, I got penny's buried 6+, and a quarter buried at 4" so definitely was doing well with the coins in wet sanded beach. I don't know and am not even sure what a gold ring would sound like buried in the sand but I believe its a low number like 8?? Anyway, I did recover about .28 cents in a hour hunt, got some junk as well when I was trying to dial it in but it was well worth it! On dry sand this thing does Excellent, you cant miss on dry running sensitivity wide open, pinpoint, GB (no problem at all)...

Have fun!!!!

Good stuff. But be careful if you're only looking for certain TID numbers for gold jewelry. Here is a link to a TTblog I wrote concerning discrimination and how it impacts certain coins and jewelry.

I actually read that report not too long ago. Most reports and research seemed to be aimed unfortunately at the 505-705 detectors though. I understand the point of the report and I can see how it would translate to the 305 but just not much info in general on the 305 out there since its the entry level X-terra. Im not necessarily looking for certain TID's though, Im digging just about anything with the exception of a -4 (ive dug enough to know its Iron!), anything else would be fair game. Ive dug some VERY small pieces of Iron recently on hunches and it TID'd correctly everytime. Appreciate all the info youve put out and I have read much of it. I think these are really great detectors for not being a PI detector.

Good luck I have to use prospecting mode on 705 and dig everything. Finding nickles deep so I think people are only going for silver.
