Beach find

Kossie

Member
Hello,

My name is Dennis Kos. I'm a beach- and water-hunter and mostly active in those forums. I've hunted the beach yesterday evening for coins and gold but found the rock on the pictures below. It gave quite a ring on my Minelab Explorer but not as an iron signal. At a distance of 25 miles there's a steelfactory. I've found lighter slack or cokes multiple times although not very frequent. About 4 years ago this beach was replenished. A few feet away I found a 50 casing which definitely came from the seabed..

Description:
The rock is heavy for it's size and sticks to a magnet. The surface has an oily colouring. The surface texture looks a bit as if has seen some slight melting but I m not totally sure here. I can also discern Small olivine crystals (green) with a magnifier.

Could this be a meteorite or is it magnetite/iron ore? Does magnetite contain olivine? How can I get a conclusive determination?

Thanks for your reactions

Cheers Kossie
