just got my new explorer a week ago and have so far only found 2 old iron nails even though i crossed the box? anyway next week im going to do some beach detecting at the waters edge and i wonder if anyone can give me some beach settings for the darn thing. i was going to get a pi detector but i was told that explorers were good on the beach. hope ive not made a mistake i have used a garret gti 2500 for about 3 months and had ok finds but this detector has really got me stumped it sounds like a roland synth when you find a target and i have great trouble pinpointing
any ideas?

Just hang in there, this machine takes time to learn. I would suggest you read the book by Andy Sabisch it will give you a good understanding on how to learn the Explorer. About five months ago I was asking the same questions as you and I have been detecting for twenty years. I can honestly say now that the Explorer is the best machine I have ever used and I have used them all. Scroll down to my earlear post titled " help for beginners " If you follow this procedure you will learn how to use this machine. Richard

I would suggest iron mask at about -10, turn on "deep"..... Concentrate on deep signals and bring along a mega-sized digging implement.... 'cause you'll be digging knee-deep holes, or worse on some signals. Auto sensitivity and listen for the slightest halfway repeatable signals... especially in the foil range along the bottom of the screen. Good luck, Mike.
