Hey there everyone. I got out for a few hours this morning in this heat and dusty dry weather. its a wonder i found anything. this first pic is everything i found, less the barbed wire.
The first find was the hook in the front of the pic. What did this come off of? then as i was diggin the nails from arround the hook, i set the detector right on the next find. The staff officers button. WOW !!! By now the hole is gettin quite large. then more brass, i think its part of a sword scabbard.A few steps away from there popped an eagle button. then the kepi buckle then the sword adjuster hook , and anouther belt adjuster( Bottom left corner of pic)What were these used for? Then a coulpe of rivets and one lonely bullet, i think it was carved.

Overall, not bad for a few hours in the heat. Wish i could have put up with it longer. Oh well i guess i will hit it at first light tomorrow. Heres hoping everyone finds there FIND. HH.................Ed

Love that Staff! The "hook" is part of some knapsack hardware, if I remember correctly it went over the shoulder and hooked onto the waist belt. Glad to see you are out digging.

were out at H-Town . the dozers juust opened up the last remaining hill. after this week i probably wont be there much. keep in touch and, HH............Ed

John is correct; the hook goes to a knap sack. It is the sling adjuster (one of the adjustable belts). The other hook would be either from a sword belt adjuster or rifle sling. The "two slot" adjuster went on web belts (cotton) but I've also seen them on leather sword belts. Your scabbard tip may be from a sword bayonet. Nice finds, David @ Dixie
