I've enjoyed the Beach & Water Hunting Forum, as well as the PI forum, since getting interested in this hobby last March or so. Started out with a used Surfmaster PI and was having so much fun decided that I needed more power - imagine that!
Anyway, sent the White's PI off to Mr. Bill for upgrade, but more research led me to buy an Aquastar and trade in the Surfmaster. Was it a good decision? It's hard to say. I was having a ball with the White's, but when I didn't find gold at every outing with the Aquastar I started questioning my sanity as it was an expensive machine. Nevertheless, after a short sabbatical I started learning the Aquastar (and still am) and started finding some items of worth.
I'm now learning to detect those faint beeps that I've read so much about and dug at least 4 pull tabs and bobby pins at 2 feet today (five scoops of damp or wet sand using Chuck the Scoop's scoop). I did find a toe ring, but hunting has been slow this week as the beach is starting to sand in. Last week was great as I found 8 rings and a nice diamond and gold pendant. I'll start posting some pics soon - mostly junk of course - ha ha!
Anyway, this is a great hobby, regardless of the finds. I'm looking forward to participating in, and learning from, the forums in the future.
Don

Hi Don,
Send me a email with the settings you have been using, perhaps with a little adjusting we can get a improvement on the finds.
Bill

Just to prove a point, I also dig all double beeps. I found an old 10k class ring which gave a double beep, it was split on the bottom. Dig um all, Good huntin, John

A coin or ring that is vertical, or at a steep angle will give a double beep. Conversely, a vertical nail or pin will give a single beep. This method of discrimination relies on the fact that most coins and rings are lying horizontal. Obviously there will be exceptions to this.
Eric.

Thanks John and Eric for the responses re: "the double beep".
Don

I will post a photo of a very large 14K lizard medallion that I found a couple of weeks ago that gave a double beep. This double beep was of longer duration than the hairpens or nails I was digging, I dig them all. It was this medallion...best not to figure you really know anything...just like a Christmas present...you got to open them all...Frank

This 14k rather large medallion gave a double beep that was longer and wider in duration than normal...Goldquest SS lived up to it's name only this was not in the desert or gold nugget country, I use it mainly on beaches. Frank
