Here is a silver dime that a club member found at a street costruction site recently. She found it in the middle of the road and it was packed gravel. All I could tell is that it was the same size as a dime. It was so caked with GUNK it was in sad shape! They took it home and did the vinegar trick and got it almost to the before pics. I said do you want me to clean it and find out what it is for you? It can't hurt! So first while they watched I was able to get a mint mark and date with my finger nail. Then I took it home to get real with it!
So with electrolosis Here are the end results. It is a 1905 S Barber Dime. It is in bad shape from the gravel street, but now it is clean and we know what it is! I even took most of the bend out of it. :)
