Poppy's Battle

A quiet day
Posted 1 day ago

Howard has not felt very good today. They have been giving him lots of fluids to help flush out the bad cells from his system and it has caused him to gain 26 pounds of fluids. Now they are giving him meds to help get rid of the extra fluid. Because of the extra weight he has not felt good. He doesn't feel like eating because he already feels stuffed. I guess missing one meal won't hurt him to much.

They also gave him two shots that are to help build up new white cells or bone marrow. There is a possibility it will make his bones ache. Having never been sick before he is having a hard time with all of this. He doesn't feel like having company at this time.

The doctor said today that he will probably not feel good for two to three weeks. I hope it isn't that long. I miss his sense of humor.

Keep us in prayer. With love, Donna

Brian's Battle

Painful days, painful nights.
Posted 1 day ago

Last night was a tough one. Brian fell asleep early, around 11:30, but woke me up several times needing pain meds. It was one of his worst nights in the last couple of weeks.

He surprised us today saying that he wanted to get out of bed and go to the store. Brian changed his shirt and put on sweats, socks and a ball cap and he was ready to roll. Carol helped him get into his wheelchair.

So...

I took Brian to Target today!! He wanted a new game that came out today for his handheld. We got him dressed and out of bed and then he wheeled up to me, hugged me tight and just cried and cried. He didn't feel like he could make it. He just wanted to go back to bed.

After he composed himself, he said he wanted to try to go after all so I loaded him up and off we went. Brian has gained so much weight it's all I can do to lift him into the van!!

When we got to Target I realized I didn't have a handicap tag so I had to park out in the middle of the lot. There was a light mist falling so we took an umbrella in with us and it was a good thing because a steady, wind blown rain was falling as we left.

I had him put a nose on his trach but the tumor under his chin is so large it wouldn't fit so he had to hold his hand over it until we got to the van.

But, by golly, we got him his games!!

When we got home he wanted to go straight to bed. He was in pain. We gave him his meds and he asked me stay in the room with him so I kicked back in the recliner and we took a short nap.

He still hasn't opened the games. He is hurting too bad to enjoy them. He just woke up so maybe he will feel better and want to play them.

Dad is really feeling bad. He doesn't have any energy and has gained 26 pounds from all of the fluids they have pumped into him. They gave him some meds to flush it out of his system but he probably won't feel real good for a couple of weeks.

I haven't been able to see him for three days now because of a minor cold, probably just allergies, but I didn't want to take a chance with his immune system being pretty much non-existent right now.

Thank you for your thoughts and prayers!!

Doug, Carol and Brian
