Benefits of an Ace 250 over the GTI 1500?

I've been reading a lot of good things about the Ace250 on here! Seems like you guys really like it. Originally I was intending on buying the GTI1500, but am wondering (if you read my other post) as a "re-starter" if I should just get the Ace250 to get myself out on the field quicker? I see that the Ace250 goes to like 8+ where as the GTI1500 goes to 12+. I haven't read anything much about the different in "gold" sensitivity. I would assume that the Ace250 isn't as good at picking up gold? Or is it basically the GTI1500 can go deeper? I'd appreciate the feedback if anyone could help me out!

:usaflag:According to the GTI 1500 stats..you are able to determine the size of the target before you dig...plus, like you said..you get the extra depth. But I believe that the Ace 250 is an excellent starter unit. Of course...if I had been able to afford the 1500 from the start..I might have opted for that instead. No regrets though...the Ace is a coin killer.
 
Neither one are geared up for finding gold except for larger pieces in mild ground. If you haven't detected before or have been away from it for a good many years it would be wise to start with the 250. You can always move up later and get most of your money back on the 250 as it is still a hot seller. The 1500 has a bit of a learning curve and the 250 would be much easier to start out with and it will go as deep as you care to dig. One should never base a detector purchase on alleged depth. Depth is a term best used in bragging sessions and ad hype and means little in the overall performance of a detector.

You might be surprised to know that the Ace is actually more sensitive than the GTI 1500. As far as I can tell, the depth is fairly similar on both units. The main difference, is that the GTI has more bells and whistles. Neither are much chop at gold hunting. If you really want to do that, then get an Infinium. If you were talking about gold rings eta, then the Ace will do very nicely. Neither machine are that hard to learn, it's more about what features you want in a machine and how much folding stuff you are happy parting with to enjoy the hobby.

Whenever anyone on another forum talks down about the Ace, my first question to mind is "what does it take to find a coin 4" in the ground?" Most of the coins at my sites are 1-3" . I 've found a couple of quarters at 6"-but most are shallow. I used to have a CZ-5 which was so heavy my arm actually collapsed during a 6 hour hunt and I had the joy of finding zinc pennies at 8":biggrin:. Now I would LOVE to have one of the GTI's just to try out the imaging or profiling, but I basically sort of do that with the pinpoint mode on the Ace. I just kinda fly over my sites because of time limitations, and only occasionally glance at the Ace ID anymore. To those that love to just listen to the detector, the Ace ALSO has it's own unique language. But let me add, whenever I win the lottery, I'm getting the 2500:devil::laugh::super:
 
HA HA! Yes, if I hit the proverbial lottery (Be it with treasure or Power Ball) I'd buy that Deep Seeking GTI 2500 and go on a world wide treasure hunt!!! (first a weekend in Vegas though....so I can have one of those freaking nice suites and act like a high roller!) However, I believe I'm gonna hit the ACE 250 instead of the GTI 1500. For two reason:

1) I'll be able to afford it sooner!
2) What ever I find with it I can use some of it and sell for a a 1500 or 2500 if I so choose to!

It seems that everyone loves their ACE 250 and with all I've been reading it doesn't seem to be a bad unit for the buck!

I also am glad to have found this message board from the Garrett website! This has been a huge help! I did just get my Garrett sales book yesterday. And it is funny, the Spring Edition of the one find had a guy who came to Western PA and found a 1977 Class Ring. The ring looked familiar and then I realized my wife graduated from the high school it came from! WOOT! So I know there is something to be found in these dar hills!! HA HA.

Now i remember Uncle Willy saying something about someone on here that sells the products and I believe he said JW? Not sure who that is....
 
And don't -if you can-forget to get a sniper coil. I paid for my sniper coil in 2 months. It REALLY-for me and my areas-transforms the Ace. It goes deeper than it should and gets closer to metal bars at a lower sensitivity than ANY small coil I have- I think it's a design thing. Hey- by the time we win the powerball, it'll probably the GTI 5000!:rofl:
