Best Jewelry Detector

I typically hate these "best detector" questions, but I have a really specific application in mind.

I am not looking for a deep seeking detector, but one that is extremely sensitive to small gold jewelry.

Most detectors can find gold rings and charms. What I am talking about is a machine that can pick up thin gold chains and earrings up to a few inches deep.

The Gold Bug Pro and the Gold Bug 2 were both highly recommended.

I am curious if there are any other opinions out there.

I am aware of the trash content involved in this kind of hunting and I am interested only in machines that currently being manufactured.

Love to hear from anyone with experience on this.
 
I'll just toss this out there and see who salutes!:rofl: If you really want to find those types of things, you will most likely be hunting totlots and beaches no? I would say something with a 11"dd coil, fast recovery, good tone choices...so a guy can hear the diff between foil and iron and nickels clearly, Delta Pitch tones, proportionate audio...I find some pretty tiny items with the F70 in the totlots and beach. Something along those lines or similar should do it. I'm thinking if a fellow wants to attempt to find those small things, a guy has to cover a lot of ground quickly and efficiently...unless a fellow intends to spend an hour in a 20x20 totter with a tiny coil. Toughest of the lot are the thin gold chains..tend to only hear the clasp..high soft iron and low foil signals for sub 2gr items..got a little .7gr 10k ring just the other day in the dirt of a soccer field! I hunt gold primarily and clad of course, silver items show up in the process without targeting them specifically. Theres many posters here that use various mfg equipment with very good results, so I think its got a lot to do with the effort and focus of those tones.

You might want to look at the AT Pro / AT Gold and the X-Terra 505 / 705, these can also find gold with the right coil on them. Any detector that operates in the 12kHz - 22kHz range is what you need to find small gold items.

The AT Pro is 15 kHz

The AT Gold is 18 kHz

The X-Terra 505 / 705 is 3, 7.5 & 18.75 kHz - There are a number of coils for this detector that offer different frequencies

Good luck with your choice, there are others to pick from too.
 
How About A Tesoro Tejon?

Its deep,
It has an uncanny ability to hit on the tiniest of things and still work around small iron.
Plus if your looking for jewelry you don't need target ID.

The Tejon runs @ 17.2 to 17.6khz

CladDog, you have been around long enough to know that the answer to that question is the Tesoro Compadre.
 
I love the Compadre, but it did not test well enough for what I have in mind.:)
 
Well that being said, I have always believed the Garret AT gold to be underrated on small gold.
 
I have just recently re-discoved my White's DFX with the help of some Forum members for the same application you desire. So not only is the DFX a great coin shooter, relic hunter and beach detector but it can be tweaked to find very small gold targets. I even went so far as to add the White's Eclipse 4x6 DD shooter coil to my arsenal. So far I've only experimented a couple hours with the 4x6 and the factory prospecting program. I like it so far. I want to hunt for the small gold targets other detectors and/or larger coils have missed. The DFX is a dual frequency detector. You can run both 3kHz and 15kHz at the same time in one of two modes or you can run each frequency by itself. I think the DFX is worth a look into. GL and HH. Matt
 
From what is saw on YT, I would say the Deep Tech Vista Gold. They used a gold chain, earring post, and a ring in a test. Tested also the Gold Bug, Compadre and the Vaquero. Only the Deep Tech got a signal( all of the test) in the disc mode. The Deep, Gold Bug, and Vaquero got a signal in all metal mode. The Compadre failed to get the depth, never got a signal ever. Depth was varied from 3.5, 5 & 10 inches. I believe the ring was the only one tested at 10 inches. What surprised me was the Vaquero sounded better than the Gold Bug. The Deep Tech was the winner in this test. In the real world nails and pull tabs might be the great equalizer.
 
The Tejon or Lobo ST.I would not do tones jewelry hunting.Just hunt were jewelry is likely to be lost.The Tesoro detectors are great jewelry detectors.One reason is Tesoro detectors are super fast in the trash.Very sensitive to small items.
