better pics of 1916D merc

IF you decide to clean it up a bit, do NOT use any type of cleaner or polish other than mild soapy water and a VERY VERY soft bristle tooth brush. Even then, do not apply a lot of pressure while using it. Cleaning such a rare and prescious coin with chemicals can ruin it numismatically.

and in such great shape too. Can't wait to see what that baby looks like after it's cleaned.

Hey, I was looking at the PCGS site and was wondering why there are 2 pcgs #'s for the 1916D?

Very Nice Details on the Mercury Dime. It should grade pretty high. Is the coin just grey looking or is there a build-up of something on the surface? I have dug a couple dimes before with a grey coat of something and was just wondering. Anyways, sure is a very nice key dime there and wish I had found that little Gem for myself. Good luck on your hunting and also on the grading.

Hi Ray,
I'm really happy for you on your fantastic find!! I've been detecting for almost 18 years and have found probably 15-20 mercury's dated 1916, but none with the special "D" Mint mark. I've been following the threads since you first posted your dime, and it's really outstanding on all the good, sound advice that our fellow Minelab Forum members have been giving you. I really enjoy the special bond that comes from this wonderful Hobby of ours, and I truly enjoy sharing our finds on this Forum. May the next swing of your detector coil go over something even more Spectacular!! HH Deh59

I would have to say that it was in an area that was usually wet and that is why the gray is on the coin.
