Bought myself an Xterra 705

Great work tracking down the owner:clapping: The when and how long ago it was lost are sometimes an interesting story that can be told over and over, especially one that old.
By far, the best help in locating a class ring loser is the internet along with access to the schools alumni board and reunion committee.......Of 12 found, only 2 are still in my collection thanks to the internet.

So far I have noticed that when I use the Xterra, I am finding far fewer nickels than when I have used my Vaquero. I generally use program 2. I am also using the stock coil. Is it just luck of finding mostly dimes, pennies, and quarters now and only one nickel, or is the Xterra less sensitive to nickel at the setting I am using?
Thanks
Andy from Hillsborough

With a stock 7.5kHz coil, I used to typically dig a good 200+ nickels per year, so I'm guessing that your not finding them has more to do with not getting your coil over them than anything else. None of the preset patterns notch out nickels, and all but the 3kHz coils will give you a clean clear consistent coin sounding tone, normally coinciding with an ID around 12.

One thing I've noticed, and I have no idea why, but when my 705 hits half battery level I seem to hit a lot more nickels. Probably all coincidence because there is a regulator in the machine, but there, I said it and I own it.

Very dry here but found 3 nickels, two quarters and a dime and Lincoln penny today in a bout 90 minutes at an old church. Nothing very old though. The ground is hard and dry. One thing I don't understand is that in some areas the ID numbers go all over the place in a small area from 8 to 46 to 32 and don't seem to settle down. Is this just falsing or multiple targets? when I dig the area I usually don't find much with this type of reading. I am still learning the machine though. I have tried lowering the sensitivity.

My guess on your erratic numbers is small junk or maybe you're swinging too fast? Just not sure.
Every once in a while I do a factory reset. And I hunt almost exclusively with GB tracking on now. My soil can change so much in a few feet that I decided its best to let the machine do it. Maybe I'm wrong, I'm still learning and I still dig everything almost, but I do alright. I've been hitting a few silvers lately I just haven't been posting.
