Bought X-Terra 705 gold pack. What else?

Good morning folks. I am kind of new here. Been doing lots of snooping on the site but cant seem to find the answer I am looking for. I purchased the MineLabs X-Terra 705 gold and some Jolly Rogers headphones from bigboyshobbies (thank you for the very nice service) and am heading to the Vegas gold show this afternoon. What I am wondering is what else might I pick up to enhance this machine? What is the better digging tools? What are some good pouches? Better case? is a pin pointer really that good? If so which one? You get the idea. What accessories would help enhance my MD time? I have only had the time to get out a couple minutes on a couple diferent days but so far I have found 2 pennies (1974 and 199?) old style beer tab and a new style beer tab an old split washer and beer bottle cap. On my way to big bucks LOL. I have gotten my neighbor involved in MDing and he bought the same machine as me and my buddy (just joined here also) just picked up a Bounty Hunter lone star and he really likes it( I see my buddy upgrading real soon) I have had fun when I have been out. Just need to find more time somehow.

Thank you for your time. I really enjoy and appreciate this site

My next two purchases would definitely be the Garrett Propointer and a Lesche digger. I would not want to hunt without either. The 705 GP is a great machine !!! The more you use it, the better your finds will get and you can understand what it's trying to tell you. As far as pouches go, I use a nail apron style pouch made by Garrett but you can pick a nail apron up at any Home Depot or Lowes. The deeper the pockets on the apron the better for me. I would also pick up a good fitting pair of gloves. I like the nylon kind with the leather palm and fingers. You can pick those up at WalMart for less than $10.00. They are not as hot as full leather or rubber coated ones and protect your hands pretty good. Metal detecting without gloves is hard on your hands. I recently started using them all the time and it is amazing the difference in my hands already. Some people use knee pads but I just keep a long towel attached to my belt that I kneel on when digging. My others carry a lot more stuff but that's about it for me. Too much stuff just bogs me down !!

Thank you very much pescadore. I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. I had been kind of bending towards the propointer. Lots of good words about it on here. I don't remember reading about the Lesche digger. I will also write that on my list for checking out. Never even thought of gloves. good idea. Thank you.

Again Thank you for your time

A Lesche or Predator digger is a good thing to have.
And as far as a pinpointer goes, you really do benefit from having one, but I can't wait 'til the new MineLab ProFind becomes available. At the moment the Garrett is king, but I can see that changing rapidly if the ProFind lives up to the company's reputation.

Pinpointer - as stated right now the Garrett Pro-pointer is probably the best
Digger - Again, currently the Lesche seems to be the one of choice
Pouch - Anything from a nail pouch to a pocketed tool pouch
Headphones
Knee pads
Towel - or something to put your dirt on in yards and parks
Small shovel - for fields - personally I like the Sampson

Garrett Propointer, a Lesche digger and gloves. A quality digger and trowel will decrease your recovery time, guaranteed. I use a daypack and not a nail pouch. Man there are days that I fill the pack with trash.

A Garrett Pro Pointer is almost a must have item.

I can honestly say that I've never used a Lesche digger. I can afford one but I have to say that everyone in my family has one of these and they are a fraction of the price. I have a decent number of years on mine and I believe that my brother has at least 20 years or more on his. If you are looking to save a few bucks and probably have something just as rugged and will stand the test of time you might want to consider this style. Don't take it personal Lesche owners, just trying to save someone a few bucks if they would like to. Kind of the "if it's not broke, don't fix it" scenario from my standpoint anyway.

Your basic needs are as stated above, but success will only come from truly getting to know your detector and learning that location is everything when it comes to making good finds. It takes a good year to learn the first part and even longer to be successful the second part...

All good advice...now the most important thing: GO HAVE SOME FUN:detecting:

Thank you everyone for the fantastic feedback. I do appreciate you taking the time to help out a neeeewbie. I did go to the Vegas gold show in hopes of some metal detecting seminars but none to be had on saturday. Still a fun show. I looked around for some knee pads as I have 2 artificial knees and do really well with them (heck I play hockey) until I have to kneel down. I also looked for some pouches and didn't find anything I really liked. I did pick up 2 Lesche diggers. Why 2? With my father in-law having so much fun watching me with my metal detector and trying to help out that we picked him up a Bounty Hunter Lone star. Then my buddy (who is a member on here) who already has a lone star is going to teach my father in-law how to use it. Let me back up here for a moment. My father in-law and mother in-law maintain 3 very old baseball fields in very very pristine condition. When I was out on the fields metal detecting and had a very strong target (found my first penny) my father in-law brought out his big spade shovel to dig a hole and find the target. I thought my mother in-law was going to faint watching him dig. All I could do was laugh. I tried to stop him but he told me to shut up as it is his lawn and he can do what he wants. So I figured I had better get papa a little smaller device to dig with so she would not kill him. We are going to give papa the metal detector tonight as a early fathers day gift. I think my mother in-law is more excited then the rest of us about him getting this.

Any how again thank you everyone for your helpful hints.

you need some practice targets. i made so, and a goldme up with a small piece of 1/4" plywood which i glued a penny, nickle, quarter,a sinker,a washer, nail, and a gold nugget to so you can set the detector up to have 99 tones and the #4 descrimination pattern on. this is what i use for now but alot of people use all metal. set out the targets and use headphones with just audible threshold and learn the sounds of the differant sounds of the targets. that way you can hunt easier than trying to dig everything but when you start is better to dig than not as sometimes it may be a good signal and you think its trash. read the manual about 10 times and also the free download e book on the xterra. if you dont have a gold nugget for practice you cna pick one up on e-bay but you need one big enough to give a signal. a little smaller than your little finger nail. go luck and go PRACTICE, PRACTICE. john

got to pick up the propointer yesterday as my buddy (loosecanon on here) was picking up his new X-terra 705. I have not had the time yet to even get the propointer out of the box and he has already text me a pic of his latest find which looks like a very nice silver ring. You bum loosecanon. Any how I am now moving on to picking up a pouch but just cant find one I really like. I seen some different ones at the Spokane GPAA show but nothing for me. So I will keep on looking. Maybe I need the wife to sew one up for me. Anyhow I just thought I would update teh post.
