The Prospector DX looks a LOT like my old Bounty Hunter Pioneer 505...I think the 505 I got from Wal-Mart looked better...if you have the money, go with the Cammo-LS, which is a Land Star with the cammo finish...It is a much better machine.

The Land Star has user controlled Manual Ground Balance for the All-Metal Modes...The Ace 250 has only a preset ground balance that cannot be altered by the user...The preset Ground balance is not good for all soil conditions. Also I have heard reports that the Bounty Hunters have much better discrimination due to the frequencies they use for detection. Any Ace 250 owners care to comment??? I have never used a Garret's so this is just from what I have heard and read on the forums.

from having used the Ace 250 I can say its a great little detector for the price. Yes it does come with a preset GB but you will be surprised where you can use this machine if you turn the sensitivity down a bit. Even by doing this your not loosing much depth. I use mine in freshwater, on beaches and parks. If price is an issue I would go with the Ace any day but if your seeking a detector with all the cream and lollies then you might want to try something else. Most detectors will do what they say they will do but few detectors will actually surprise you and blow you away. Best of luck with your decision.
Cheers!
