Bounty Hunter Outlaw DE280

I just bought one of these on eBay and am wondering if anyone else has used one in the past or even currently. I understand it is a 20+ year old metal detector but don't know a lot more other than that. For the price ($42) it seemed like a pretty good deal. I don't know if it will be the same, worse, or better than the Tracker IV (stolen) that it is replacing. When my budget allows I will get a more up-to-date machine but this will do since I only have a few months experience two summers ago and have a lot to learn. Anyway, if you've used one and you have any comments or hints or tips please let me know .
Take care,
Erick

Erick,
I got once some data about an independant test of older BH's (Maverick TR, TR500, Bandit, TR550-D, BFO pro, 800 VLF/TR, 840 VLF/TR, DE280)
The DE280 (VLF) was the one that had the best readings: 50 cm for a 2,5 cm coin
Maximal detecting depth: around 200 cm
BUT: I guess that is was an air test...
It runs with a 9V and a 12V battery packages.
There exist 20 cm an 30 cm coils.
Let me know about the real performance, as I am mostly interested in older BH's.
Kind regards from Luxembourg and Merry Christmas to all.
Paul

Thanks for the information, Paul! That is encouraging news. I am going to use it for the first time tomorrow (Sunday) and mostly learn the settings and ground balancing. I will then do some hunting on my sisters farm property. If I learn anything about it's performance tomorrow I will report back.
