Bringing it back old school

Last week I was able to sneak away for a few short hunts. Most of my finds came from one outing where I pulled a 4 silver day within a couple hours. I have been scoping out a park that I recently researched that dates back to the late 1800's with most of its activity around 1920's. The park is on a lake and has a small beach on it. Now I don't know about ocean beaches, because I haven't had the privilege to hunt on ocean beach front yet, but small beaches up here that are on lakes tend to make my Explorer go kinda crazy at times. They tend to be filled with hot rocks in the surrounding soil and I pretty much have avoided them like the plague...until recently.

Ever since I met up with Bryce on a hunt late last season, things are starting to come together for me like the Matrix did for Neo, ok not that good, but still good. I owe so much credit to Bryce for opening up my eyes to the power that the Explorer holds. I may not use his exact settings, but the important thing is I am not afraid to make adjustments and play with settings on my own now. The best change I made was to open my discrimination pattern and get rid of the S curve that I ran for many years. I am digging many more signals, initially not always sounding fantastic either, but I am just simply amazed what I have been finding. I have been pulling coins that are literally buried in trash or completely on edge.

Ok, back to Beach Park, I got started detecting a patch of ground about 10 yards off the beach, sure enough the Explorer wasn

great finds. Yours and other post about the explorer have really helped me with my e-trac. I tried the slowing down and working out the horrible crappy sounds and it works very well for me. Im now able to pull some really good things from amongst loads of trash and iron. I was doing like you did only digging the good sounds but once i started trying to pull the funky sounding hit out and make them sound good i found several silvers and others in holes with iron.
I just wanted to say thanks to you and others for posting what you have learned cause it has and continues to help me and im sure others as well.
my learning curve has been cut way down by reading you explorer guys post thank you.:please:

Way to go cuz!! i am so proud of you. One of the things we talked about early in the year was to rededicate ourselves to thou roughly learning our machines better this year. You are proving to do just what you set out to do and are now getting the finds to show it. :yo:

It opens a whole new world to you as far as hunting spots and not being afraid to go back to old "worked out" spots. In fact I just thought of another one I need to go back to.

On a side note, that spot you pulled all that out was a spot you were supposed to be SCOUTING for my trip out there in a couple weeks. instead you are trying to clean it out:crazy: Next spot you "scout" , think of fishing and try the "catch and release" technique:rofl:

Way to go man, I cant wait to get up there in a couple weeks. It is going to be a blast!!!!

There's always a surprise mixed in with the shallow clad and it can be rewarding if one takes the time and picks up every coin that they come into contact with. Even though most of the targets dug shallow are going to be clad, it's still worth it since the clad all adds up at the end of the year and then you can cash it in and get something you want like a Coin or Detector Accessories that you need. Congrats on a great hunt and WTG with the Barber Quarter. Continued Success, Good Luck and HH to you.:detecting:

your post is going to make it hard to pass up shallow clad.

case in point--- remember my last trip by you when I decided to dig a shallow hit just cause i thought it was a quarter and it turned out to be a beautiful Walking Liberty Half only down a few inches??:surprised:

I cant believe I almost passed it up.

Maybe it is all the gophers in MN that bring some of those up to the shallow depths.

I read this post the first time..I was so pressed for time that I forgot to come back and say what I wanted to.

Anyway...thanks for the credit you give me for helping you along in some way.

You hit on a key point that I wish others would realize..that all you truly need is to have your eyes "opened".

You don't have to use anyone's exact settings....hear the exact sound they are...use the exact same coil...etc.

All you need is that eye opening starting point...then you adjust the tips...settings...coils...etc...and incorporate them into your own personal preference.

Glad you are finding some goodies my friend.
