Broke the Ace in..

That sounds pretty much how I find it. I have thought on occassion to hunt on your home turf after a certain mucic festival that is held there very early in the year. I wasn't aware of local detectorists when the thought first crossed my mind.
We had pretty thick smoke here today from the Rylstone/Kandos fire. I saw quite a few Rural fire fighting vehecles heading to it while I was detecting on Saturday. The fire is now under control.

You're more than welcome to come up here after a certain music festival...in fact if you want a place to stay, give me a call.. then we can both line up after all the others who have come up here with the same idea..some of them camp here, and detect ...sure, they dont get it all, but that is not why I bought a metal detector. I like a challenge, and I enjoy the hunt. But I enjoy going after the unknown...you know how it felt when you found your first florin...you cant compare that feeling to finding today's currency after something like the music festival. Yes, it's always nice to find coins or other artifacts, but I refuse to demean myself by trying to compete with some of the guys who bring their detectors here. No offence to anyone, but if I dont keep to my own standards then my hobby is really worth zilch.

But what I'll do, is use Kellyco's price of $212 as the goal.
Starting out money ahead doesn't hurt, either

Sounds like a great idea. I can't be sure when I'll head up, but I'll drop you a line when I do. I'm hoping to take up paragliding in the next couple of years and will do my training at Mt Borah. I did a tandem up there a few years back. I'll be flying up there on a fairly regular basis once I get my wings.
When I was detecting up on the Gold Coast a couple of years ago, I heard about the behavior of some of the local detectorists on the main Surfers Paradise beaches from several locals. They hated interlopers and both council rangers and the police had been called on more than one occasion. I wasn't interested in dealing with that sort carry on so I didn't hunt there.
