Broken Coil Lugs Solution!

Goldstrike

Well-known member
Well, it had to happen sometime! The lugs on my 11 inch coil broke off. I posted a solution on the 'Modifications Forum' if you have the same problem as I did. You may want to check periodically for stress cracks around your coil lugs. It would be disappointing to have this happen out in the field, miles away from home with no spare coil. Here's what it looked like after I did the 'fix'!!

This happened to me with a old machine and since then I check all my coils periodically I've sort of developed OCD about checking because it ruined a fairly pricey coil the last time it happened. It really shouldn't happen and in my opinion when it does its the manufacturers fault probably some kind of defect.

I think the manufacturers intentionaly make the lugs too thin, knowing that they will develop stress fractures and eventually break off. If they made them stronger/thicker which they easily can do (should do)!! they will never wear out. The skid plates can be changed when they wear out and the coil will be good to go!!
