Broken Pole Locks

 I was tightening my upper pole lock on my Silver Sabre uMax when it cracked. No, I wasn't overtightening it,...just snugging it up because I was getting some wobble. Has this ever happened to you? What did you do to get it fixed? I was wondering if the factory has to "press " those on or is it something I can do myself.

Never having had to do it, I may be mistaken, but I think it's something you can do yourself. I did have one joint that was still a bit looser than I preferred one time so I wrapped a layer of thin electrical tape around the male end which firmed it up very well.

Just wondering if it was cold? The plastic will get brittle if it is cold.

I get a wobble in one out of every two tesoro poles. This is one area tesoro could really improve on.I always get a wobble from the control box pole connector.I use a rap of electrical tape.Makes the swing loose free.I rap the male end with the tape, back near the hump, with just one wrap. Some pole sets fit together good and some don't.My tejon is terrible. It would be be nice to have a redesigned pole option with the hand grip in front of the control box.Or something a little better or different.

Check with Chuck at Indian Nations, he can get some pole locks from Plugger, best replacement locks I have found. Easy to use.

Hi Guys, This pole lock broke while I was cleaning the rod. I barely tightened it. It must of had a hairline crack already. I bought the machine second hand and had really never messed with the upper cam lock before. I was inside so is wasn't cold. Probably going to try the tape idea because all three of my uMax units have some wobble. I'm going to check with Indian Nations too about those other locks. Thanks for all the tips. Probably going to talk to Tesoro today about it and I will report back later as to what happened. Thanks again, RDF :tesoro::detecting:

A locking device for tent poles capable of achieving a firm and easy bloc to poles and easily and conveniently replacing a broken pole piece without replacing the entire pole along the broken pole piece. :ban:

 Spoke with Rusty over the phone. What a great guy. There aren't a whole lot like him around anymore. I'm going to send it in for repair. I found out that customers have not done too well in trying to do the repairs at home. :nopity:

Not trying to hijack your thread but reading it made me think of what I call the Tesoro squeak. I have had a few Tesoro detectors that would sort of squeak when you swung the coil, the problem area is where the middle rod goes into the the upper cam lock. Some have put a small dab of grease on the end of the middle rod that goes into the upper cam lock but I don't like the idea of grease or electrical tape or anything sticky as dirt will stick to it, I put a couple turns of plumbing teflon tape on the end of the pole before inserting it and tightening the cam lock.

Yep, I've used teflon tape a time or two. It works great!
