Bryce and all-Question difference in Audio from Explorer II and SE Pro

raweppler

New member
I just bought a new SE Pro and sold my Explorer II to get the new machine. I took it out first time the other day and did find a silver quarter.

But the tones are different to what I was used to on the EX II. I set the EX II on Normal tone. I notice there is no Advanced section and no Normal, Audio 1, etc. on the SE Pro. It is set at Normal.

The pinpointing sound also was a high squeal. Is there a setting on the SE Pro which would mimic the Normal setting on the EX II? Would Long, Smooth be similar?

Thanks for your time and happy hunting!!!

from my reading i think that long is close to what you need and pinpoint is vco getting higher pitch the more centered you are

What do you have your Threshold tone and variability on? If its factory they could make a change in what you hear. I know i can almost set mine to the tones on a DFX by adjusting these settings... but prefer TH Tone 8 and Variability 10. Ray.... VCO = Voltage Controlled Oscillator.

the SE pro. You have the choice of Normal...Long...Smooth...and Pitch Hold.

I have mine set at normal and it sounds exactly like my EX2 with the exception of it is a little more "hot".

The EX2 sounds just slightly more "smooth".

I don't hear a "high squeal" when pinpointing with my SE. I hear a low mellow tone that increses in strength when I creep the coil to the target center.

The only time I ever get an increasing high pitch in correspondance with getting closer to target center is when I am pinpointing a shallow object.

On deepies...I don't get a pitch increase...but I do get an increase in audio response strength as the coil approaches target center.

pinpoint too.

Meaning: When you hit the pinpoint button and the coil approaches the target center...the audio response becomes louder and the pitch gets higher...the closer you get to target center.

With the SE...this is exactly what happens too...but I don't get a change in pitch when I pinpoint because most of the targets I dig are 7"+ or deeper.

On shallow targets..then sure...the SE screams in a very pitch when pinpointing the closer the coil gets to target center...but that is because the target is pretty shallow.

On deep targets the pitch doesn't change at all when I pinpoint. The audio response just gets slightly stronger the closer I get to centering over the target.

You didnt say if you had an inline probe. You can get a VERY HIGH squeal when you are in normal hunting, switch to pinpoint, THEN turn on the probe. If you have the probe... dont switch to pinpoint until you have flipped the switch to the probe.

Thanks for the advice!!! Yes the tone squeals more when it is shallower target. I went out yesterday and am getting more used to the sounds. I found a few wheats and did dig some nickels as well.

I do like the pinpointing on the SE as the depth and smart screen will work while pinpointing.

I hope to get some more time in today and work on those sounds. I may try the Long setting and see if is any better.

no other explorer...and yes the screen works in function with what you hear. That's the key...and you're finding that out:thumbup:

I would have to say that about 9 out of 10 people I hunt with or meet up with have their response set on normal...but what you prefer is something you can discover on your own.

Good luck,...and keep us posted

Thanks for all the advice. Dew, I upped the threshhold tone to 8 and variability to 10 and I think it was better. I posted a hunt just went on and the results were not bad.

Bryce, left it on normal and I think I will keep it that way for a while. Making the changes above seemed to help me hear better.

Thanks again Guys!!!
