Bryce in IL I have been trying out your setup as outlined in the Sabisch book.

I must say me SE is doing well for me while running your settings in FL ground.
I have beach hunted for many years but started trying my luck at some schools and have been finding wheat cents and a few silver coins in the 8" to 10" depth area. I was curious as to whether or not you ever open up your iron mask any at different locations and also wanted to thank you.

NEVER:biggrin::thumbup:

If I close the iron mask by just one number....I don't have the confidence to hit a deep silver coin while my SE is nulling. The deep coins just don't break thru the silence for me.

If I open up the iron mask by just one number....then deep iron starts to mimic deep coins...hence it sounds too good...and I dig too many deep rusty nails:detecting:

With my iron mask set where it is...I can still hit a deep coin while the SE is nulling...and I can also tell a deep rusty iron chunk or rusty nail falsing...from a deep coin hit most of the time.

For me...and in my soil...I like it where it is. Your soil might handle it differently...so don't be afraid to play around with iron mask some and open it up a little if you want.

If you start to dig too much iron...then shut 'er down a little:jump:

I did just that yesterday and opened up my mask to 28 instead of running it at what the Sabisch book said you have yours set at.
A lot more iron showed up in my pouch because it sounded more like coins than iron with my masking set at 28.
I then backed it off to what you have yours set at and began to do much better at the coin to iron ratio.
I could read the iron falsing much better.
One more question if you don't mind. Do you ever use manual sensitivity-and if not...why?
If you don't feel like posting it on the forum feel free to pm me if you have the time to do so. I don't want to be a pain but would like your opinion. thank you again

I have my own reasons for doing so...and that might not have any benefit to you at all

it's never a pain to try and answer questions...unless I don't know the answer:bouncy:

I'm not a real technical feller'...and if I don't know the answer...I'll tell ya'.

I'm kind of a basic "meat and taters" type of guy....and I try to keep my responses simple and easy to understand.

I run my SE very hot with the gain jacked. Because of this I get some falsing and chirping at some sites. By running my sensitivity in semi auto...the SE really settles down for me and will still hit deep coins.

With too much falsing and chirping...it's hard to concentrate on deep silver hits which can sound the same on the initial hit.
Semi auto just stabilizes my SE and allows me to run the high gain setting I do...it just keeps the falsing and chirping to a minimum.

In the field...and over 100's and 100's of targets...I have yet to hit a deep coin in manual that I couldn't hear in semi auto.
There have been some cases where the sound I hear is better over the deep target in manual than when in semi auto....but I can still tell it's a coin.

Many times I will play with settings over deep coins...switching from semi to manual to see what I hear.

If I was in manual when I went over said deep coin...I might not have heard it anyway if the SE was falsing and chirping...so I stick with semi auto.

Now if I happen to stumble on an iron free site...clean ground...etc....I will put the SE in manual sensitivity...and Rock & Roll...but about 90% of the time...I'm in semi auto.

Take care...and if you have any more questions...please let me know. If they are technical questions though that require a scientific answer...please peck on someone elses' door.:bouncy:
