Bubba's Cliff Notes?

Well, I finally did it. I ordered my Omega the other day and it should be here Tuesday. I got the 2nd coil package also from KCo, with the 11" DD Coil and am excited to see what this machine and I can do. I returned a Garrett Ace 250, and a Minelab X-Terra 305, and figured for the price of the larger coil to purchase separately with the Mlab, that I could get the 2 coil 8000 package. I can't wait.

Here is my question for the OMEGA users. What are your favorite settings to use on the Omega, and why? How far do you "test the boundaries" with sensitivity and discrimination, especially with the 11" DD coil?

I figure if I can get some discussion here about the favorite settings you use and why, then others (like myself) can learn from you, and vice versa. Hopefully this can get a healthy discussion going too!

What settings do you use?

Will someone please share with me their "secrets" of what settings they use? What sens and disc do you fellow Omega users rely upon?

Just got my Omega 8000 yesterday.

Please help, :surrender:

OK, not much of a secret though.
Here in the UK where it hunt the soil is always around the 70 mark.
I can go up to 85 - 90 Sens. sometimes.
I stick to 80 most times though. ( Stock 10" coil by the way ).
I use it in Discrim. ( Knob at about 10 Oclock ).
Runs Smooth as silk.
Easy on the arm and good depth.
So far nothing has broke, i feel this is a fragile machine so go easy on it.
Goog luck.

My soil reads in the low 50's. Usually run the tones @ 4. If the trash is heavy, I run the disc at 45, and when I get sick of the tones I'm not interested in digging, I crank the disc up to 72, Then just dig the high tones.
The sensitivity I run as high as possible, usually over 85. Thats how you get good depth. Then swing away. Dig those hi tones. Also dig the iffy tones, to give your self an education.
If you are in an area where there are older , deeper coins, turn the disc way down, and run 3 or 4 tones, listen for the faint higher tones. Deeper coins , or on edge coins read lower on the meter.
Have fun.

bubbadirect congrats on getting your new Omega, trust me youwill like it .I have had mine now for about three or four weeks and i hunt a park across the lake from me.I have the three coil pkg and only used the std coil the first week and i can tell you So Far for coin hunting im more impressed with the std coil then the other two.It may be my limited time with the 11 inch dd coil i do like the 5 inch dd coil but the 11 inch i need to work with more it is strong on iron if you dig for relics but i mainly use my Omega for coin hunting but i dont find the 11 inch hard to pinpoint with and i set it up using disc of 40 to get rid of iron signals, sensitivity 75 to 85 my ground balances around high 50s to 60s here in Illinois and i run either the three tone or four tone for coin hunting.Target seperation seems to be very good with the dd coils butthat std elliptical coil does a fine job but im sure the larger coil will go deeper in some cases and i hope to end up liking that coil like so many on here do.The Omega ground balances very easy with the ground grab feature it takes only about two seconds to lock on a number and your set to go.I would recommend to ground grab the unit in the at mode or all metal mode then switch back to disc mode once the unit is ground balanced. The Omegs seems to be a dime magnet for me for i seem to find about as many clad dimes with it as most other coins and that high tone on pennys dimes and quarters is a nice sounding alert to money in the ground (Most Times) lol.A few times i have notched out pull tabs but i seem to run the omega mosty with iron disc. out and go by the tones and ids to decide if i want to dig the target.yes i dig more pull tabs but dont want to miss gold rings and jewelry either so its a trade off dig the tabs or notch them out and only go for coins its your decision how you like to hunt.My hunt yesterday had the std coil on disc set at 40 sensitivity at around 75 to 80 hunted for about two hours at the park and found 17 shell casings can only think they must be from the civil war reanactments that are held there each year, could have dug more of them but 17 was enough lol, also found three quarters three nickles three dimes, and three pennies a metal button and some junk of course.Monte and some of the others on here that have had more experience with the Omega may have some other tips for you but the omega ia very simple and easy to use and very lite so you can hunt with ease, very good ergonomics.Enjoy the Omega 8000 and best of luck to you.....Markmac

Thank you markmac, bugg, and chaddy for your responses! I started out with the unit today (with the DD coil) and experimented with everything from pull tabs (old and new) up to iron grape shot found near a civil war battlefield. I also took off my gold wedding ring to see what it rang up as. The things that I noticed so far was that the 2 different pull tabs came in between 56-59 and the gold ring came in between 60-62, so I think and hope that I will be depending upon the readout to decide what to dig and not to dig.

Also, when I do the ground grab thing, am I supposed to lower slowly to the ground to get the number or am I supposed to "PUMP" quickly? Do you know? What works for you?

I am in Indianapolis, IN, USA and it seems that the ground grab gets the number around 57 or so. BUT I notice within a few minutes that there are ALL 3 bars in the GROUND ERROR above the bar and that I have to manually decrease the arrows to the downside to get to 22 or so. When I do that, there is not GROUND ERROR bars. Is this normal?

Thanks again,
bubbadirect
