Buffalo, big button and silver

Went out this afternoon for a couple hours. It was about 39 degrees but that's as good as its going to get for the next few days. The F70 just keeps producing for me. Disc-6, Sens-70, Thres-4, 3h tones and I was on my way. I went to a new place that is a friend of a friend's cousins grandmothers old house. The first hole I dug was trash. The second hole within 5 minutes of starting was a 1941 merc. The wind was howling and it was pretty chilly but I had to keep on. Managed to hunt only two hours before my fingers were numb and my nose was dripping all over my rig. I did manage to find 3 mercury dimes, 3 wheat pennies (1911 was oldest), a 1936 buffalo nickel, a really big button with some sort of decoration, and a metal band that I think came from a tagged goose or duck or something.

I guess I should have put something beside the button. Its the size of a half dollar. I have no idea what it was used for.

That's amazing my friend! three pieces of silver in one pretty short hunt.
NICE!

Thats another fine hunt with some great targets! :clapping:

See if you can track down that bird band...theres a website and all that......theres an 800 number you can call and talk to somebody even...they will ask you where you found it, and then tell you what bird it was off and when and where the bird was banded..even send you a certificate that sort of looks like a diploma suitable for framing...and you get to keep the band!...

Mud, what if they are poultry bands?......chickens, turkeys?

Good point SteveO! I didnt think of that!

I guess then the bird band people will then tell you, "Thats off a 21lb Butterball tagged at Olsens Turkey Farm in Stillwater MN back in March of 93, transported common carrier 563 miles, to the Pilgrims Pride Chicken processing factory in Bugtussle AL Oct of '94, sold at the Piggley Wiggley in Butchers Holler WV to a gentleman locally known as 'Cotton' Harris in early November of the same year, succulently deep fried in peanut oil behind the Butchers Holler COGIC church during their annual membership drive and community Turkey Boil, heartily enjoyed by all"..or something to this effect?.

You would still get your diploma I hope!... Since Fireftr didnt post anything of reference to base the size of this bird band off of, it could be from a Cornish Game Hen for all I know..if it is, that of course, changes everything...Cotton dont go for that fancy stuff when theres plenty of pigeons for free...
Mud

LOL Its about a half in or so in diameter. It does have KY wildlife on it so that might rule out the Butterball theory. Going to try to make some calls the first part of the week.

Dang Mud, you really cracked my up with that turkey senario! You're quite the wordsmith!

Fireftr227, nice hunt. I've got an indian like that too, rusty and even a bit crustier. Not sure where I found it! That's another funny story I'll post up in the Metal detecting thread.

Happy hunting everybody!
