It's been a while since I've posted here but I do like the site and this particular forum is very active with some good detectorists. For those who are new to the hobby this is a good place to find valuable info.
Plus I just love this hobby.
First thing is that we all concentrate on the high numbers on the explorer and love to dig the silver. Understandable right! We all are searching for the big round silver dollar or oh my god its a trade dollar (my own personal wish list item).
Well for all newbies remember to dig the 4's because that's a BUFFALO Number amongst other things. I've been hunting with a buddy who digs buffalos like wheaties. Now I'm a big buffalo fan but coming out of the ground they usually are in poor shape. So I know its not a focal point.
Anyway I was hunting at a buddies house which dates back to 1760 and his kid was following me a round. Next to a tree I got a nice hit: 4 on the richter scale and it was a 1929 buff which I gave to the kid and said go wash it off and you can have it. Well the kid comes running out yelling its a 1929,1929.........well he was hooked.....I pulled 2-3 more really early wheaties and they went into his collection immediately.
Secondly I was hunting another site that has huge potential. I had to mountain bike in and had about 20 minutes to detect before opening the store.....well in the short time I got this neat old ring. Again low on that spectrum of numbers. pic is included. sorry for the digger fingers.
Lastly I got an email from a customer and his email explains it all-
John,
Tim copied me on the Wigwam socks, and I've been meaning to contact you, so now that your e-mail address is in front of me, I can do it easily. My brother was over visiting from Montana a few days the beginning of the month, and one day I took him out to show him how the detector works. He tried it a bit, and then he watched me use it. I showed him that I had a signal for a pull-tab, but that the guy who sold it to me (you) had told me to dig everything, because once you had found a gold ring when your detector told you it was a pop-tab. Then I dug and Voila! a 10K gold ring! My brother couldn't believe his eyes. Thanks for the good advice: it made digging for all those other pull-tabs worthwhile.
