Hi all, its me again, went out today local park, found few coins two young queen vic, silver sixpence, other odds and ends will post pics when coins are cleaned, any how i found a rifle bullet in the drained lake,(the same one they found the ww11 german bomb) unusual i think for uk, it has DM 42 on the bottom and is unfired, is this the date and make of it if so could any one tell me what it is please, i have tried to google it but i am not sure where to look properly, once again thanks.

I think the cartridge you have was manufactured by Des Moines Ordnance Plant, Des Moines, Iowa in 1942. That is what the headstamp indicates. Were there any American troops in that area during the war? Is it a drill round without a primer? I once found a pit where there were thousands of .45 ACP, .30 carbine and 30-06 drill cartridges. They were just abandoned after they outlived their usefulness. Below is a website with an exhaustive listing of headstamps.
