Bummed out

My detector broke this morning while digging. Both of the 'ears' that are part of the coil - that the lower shaft connects to - broke off. After many years of use it finally gave in I guess. The ears are kind of thin. Anyway, I emailed Fisher with a pic of it and we'll see if the lifetime warranty is good or not. Did dig about 25 coins before it quit. Steve in so az

Aw, man, that is a bummer! <img src="/metal/html/sad.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":sad"> You eclipsed my total coin find for the year before it broke, though!

You have a back up, don't you?

I had a guy that builds golf clubs tell me that " If you want to glue something that will never come apart use the epoxy that they use to make golf clubs"
Worth a shot if not covered by warranty. Good Luck.

if Fisher doesn't work out for you I know a guy (Mike in MI and Greg in MI know him too - he's Al from ProStock Detectors) who knows how to make new ears and get them glued down.
He sent me instructions once so I could do it myself - as I received and still have a 12 inch coil I got from Paul (NWO) - but never did get around to fixing and lost the instructions. But Al is the man if Fisher falls thru on ya - though I don't think Fisher will fall thru oin ya.

I do have a Shadow X2 but have found it not to be very good for depth . It's great for CW relics though. I do have a 1280 x water machine I could use, Steve

Good to know about the glue - the part isnt broken so I can paste it back. It's all gone. Waiting to hear from the factory, Steve

took care of my CZ-20 when it leaked! I hope it all works out!

the coil ears breaking is not coverded by the Fisher lifetime warranty - but they will check my serial number for whatever ??? Steve

At least you do have a couple of back-ups, so that's better than nothing!
God Bless!
Betty

Some special epoxies contain microscopic metal particles to give them added strength. Drives your detector nuts. I tried it. you might try fibreglass cloth or shreds to build it back up with some strength. Check on the internet some some new miracle bonding material.
Hang in there while the solution works out.

Or get a new coil and still fix, or fix it instead of a new coil?
