Found this button in a hayfield where a cabin stood circa 1860's-70's. Nothing else has been there since. It says Horstman Sons & Drucker? NY. Any one know anything about this backmark and when it was used? Two cent piece came from the same field. Dale in Iowa

Dale,
Nice button That particular backmark was used from 1845-49.

All I can find in my button book is a Horstmann Bros. & Drucker / New York / 1844-1850 and also a W H Horstmann & Sons. / Phila. 1843-63. There are eight of the Horstmann companies but these are the only two that has sons or Drucker. My guess would be slightly pre-civil war. Nice finds Dale.

Some of the best are: Alberts, Tice (Uniform Buttons and the newer Dating Buttons), Troiani (Rev War era) and McQuinn/Bazelon Backmark book. We carry them all in our Books page.
