Will old red brick set off the C$?
Reason why i ask is because i was in the park today and got a realy nice +30 signal with pinpoint saying it was 70.. with sense at lvl 9.
I dug down and did find a penny at about 6in. Right below it was a chunk of old red brick. I rescaned the hole and it said there was a +35 signal still in the hole. So i dug another 3-4 inches and now the signal jumps all over the place from +25to +55
I kept finding a bunch of old brick. Im thinking that where this park is was built on top of old home sites. I have yet to find anything older then 1970 in this park so.. I dont know what the deal is.
Also another thing, Dug up at 11in a old (??can??) not shure what it is. But it read out as a +35 signal.. It was steady and did not waver.
I have about 25-35 hours on the C$ so far and still learning a lot about it. Thanks for all your help in advance

Dave, sorry, I'm no help as my new C$ is due in tomorrow and I can't wait. I was curious on where you live (California?). I'm just getting back into MDing and looking for some California hunters. I'll probably be spending many hours on this forum after tomorrow.

I don't think the red brick would have any affect on it. There was probably something else (or many things) deeper or close by. After you pulled out the penny did you Pinpoint it again? If I PP a target and it reads a shallow depth, and I have already dug 6 inches, I move on. It's most likely another soda can. Like Bill said a couple days ago, the PP is tuned to coin sized targets. So a large target like a can at 6" may PP at say 2". Look at it like this.....Your C$ sniffed that penny out of the trash. Just be patient and remember if you dig a piece of trash, it really is OK! <img src="/metal/html/lol.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":lol"> This is metal detecting after all. Back the sensitivity down a bit and pound that area. I'll bet there is more stuff there. Keep us posted.

Hi Dave,
We just went over that same question over on the Bounty Hunter forum. Nice group of people over there. Topic heading is under the Falses threads.
For the most part, the answer is yes, brick and even some pottery will cause a metal detector to respond to it. Most of the them are made out of clay, and clay has more mineral content than most soils. So do some of the glazes used on them.
Some, like red clay, is highly mineralized, and it is not uncommon for it to read like a good signal or a hot rock to the metal detector.
The fact that you were able to pull something good out of that environment speaks well of the CoinStrike.
