Q, for Eric.
What is the difference between the AS ll, and the latest c scope unit. I think its the 7 series. Does it have the 1/2 amp power and simular delay and sensitivity.
Q2: is it possible to set up a PI unit to give audio response, or visual(led readout) in response to a null signl, signifying gold,silver or coinage, instead of iron. In effect possiblt adjustble button to use for reverse discrimintion to use on the handle of a unit , so onlyh one hand is needed.
I'm new at this, so please humor my neophite questions. Thanks.

I'm new at the detector game, I bought the kids a cortez instead of a tiger shark, to take to the So .Cal beaches to have fun with. It was fine in the dry sand, but in the wet black sand it was useless. it has a cool meter, somewhat usefull, and the kids like to see if the item is what the meter thinks it is.
I had as much fun as they did, but nowI am going to get the best PI unit I can find. The goldquest ss would be mine by now if it was usable in 10 or 15 feet of water. My 13 yr old thinks he is Cousteau, and wants to go out in the surf.I asked about the c scopcs7 because it is waterproof, But of course now that I have heard of the goldquests' superior sensitivity, I want it.
How hard would it be to put waterproof conectors and knobs on the goldquest ss?
What about a button to give it this reverse discrimination, if thats what we can call it. How about a two way toggle so it can go from a refence of fully sensitive to say 85% , and then mabey 70 % sensitive, or what ever would make the desirable items like gold and silver start to dissappear. and if its possible, have an led bank that can show the items falling out of the detectors sensitivity. These arent hard numbers, just trying to put forth a general theory. I dont even know all the possibilities, but if an Intel 1 gig cpu can be had for 59 bucks, some laid off Intel employee should be able to program it to do something simular.
I really enjoy this forum, and I would like input from whom ever has any ideas or has already had experience in this. Mabey a system like this is in the works. Thanks all.

As far as waterproofing, i just want to be able to hit some deep holes under water,one beach I visit has some weird holes I sink into while body surfing, they are bound to collect some treasures, and 10-15 feet seemed like it wouldnt be too difficult. I just dont want to ruin the electronics if I get smurfed by a big wave.
Could I have the insides of the Goldquest installed in an aluminium box. I have a good friend who has all kinds of cnc mills, he can make a box and lid that has as many o-rings on it as was needed, tapered fit and all. It can have the goldquest logo mill engraved on the side of it, anodized gold first, then milled recessed. He does it all the time for micro wave repeater companies.
Are there any sealed trim pots that have multiple detents so one can simply dial in a 1,2 3, an so on, for quick reference. I know it isnt necessary, but it would give an easy reference. I just like to detect with one hand, box on stick, and scoop with the other, and its easier if all the knobs are near the gripping hand.
Last silly question. Can some florescent twine be tied across the coil to form a target "X"
or will it cause problems when it gets wet with salt water. My Dad, a former F-16 avionics guy thought it up and is curious. He built a detector back in the 60's, had a!5 lb. motorcycle battery to power it, poeple who complain about Minelab have no idea how good they have it.
