Cable difference water vs land machines?

KVM2

New member
I have converted a UMax to be used under water,,,as a wader.. I doubt that the coil will be deeper than three feet, but there will be plenty of hours on it..Coil the 8 inch concentric...Other than possibly using a dab of silicone rubber at the coil/ coil wire connection point, is there anything else I might consider? An hour or two, compared to seven or eight hours can, almost be considered an order of magnitude..Is the land coil wire covering, the same as the U/W machines? If the U/W wire covering material is different, then I may have to improvise/// Thanks for any comments

Interesting question. Hadn't thought about there being different materials used since the coils themselves are all advertised as water proof. Took a look and the Sand Shark coils have a thicker and stiffer cable than the coils for the other Tesoro detectors I have.

Don't know if it is needed for the depth rating or if there are other considerations even for shallow water.

Maybe Alcav (Robert) can help with this one.

The coils should be waterproof up to the connector.
