Cache of Morgan silver dollars and other silver coins recovered..

my that is one sweet shed find uncle willy wtg bud i wish i could locate something as big as that those morgans and piece dollars thay are just awesome congrades i bet you did a dance of a thousand indians when you saw those sparkling back at you lol.

Yep. Years ago they were going to build a new freeway across Portland so they bought up the right of way and moved or tore down hundreds of houses and buildings leaving that many vacant yards to hunt and I hunted as many as I could. This cache was foubnd under the dirt floor of what appeared to have been a shed on the back corner of a lot.

The coins were wrapped in oil cloth ( precursor to plastic ) and stuffed into an old paint can. Probably had been there since the thirties or forties due to being wrapped in the oil cloth. The can was buried about a foot down and naturally blasted a signal. When I dug it up, opened it up, and unwrapped the oil cloth I about wet my britches because I figured it was just an old rusty can. Good thing nobody was around to hear me screech and see me dance.

Money wise it wasn't a large amount in today's dollars but when it was buried it was a large amount - about two weeks pay for most at the time or two month's rent for an apartment. I still have all the coins.

Reminds me of what one person found here recently detectecting. He was detecting in an old run down shed ,detecting the floor boards in one corner got a signal in the corner ,checked a loose board and found a old tobbaco tin full off oil. When he emptied the oilly content ,it was full of 1920 and 30s nickels. I think he did the chicken dance.
