Cam Lock

I have a Surf PI, LOVE IT, but in a one month period both Cam Locks broke. When the first one cracked I contacted Mary @ Whites and she sent a replacement (thank you Whites) yesterday I went to install the new part and the upper cam lock just fell apart in my hand, I have emailed Whites. My question is this rare, did I do something to cause this?

I've never had it happen to me. Are you over-tightening them, perhaps?

I tried to take it apart to clean and found the lower one seized, so I sprayed them with WD-40, they released and after cleaning out the sand and putting them back together they worked perfectly. A week later the lower one cracked, Whites sent a replacement, it arrived and I went to replace it and the upper one just fell apart in my hand. Is it possible this or any spray lubricate is a no-no on this cam locks?

That is very unusual and not at all typical of White's products. Our tech has replaced cam-locks here in our shop and none have ever fallen apart - I'm not sure if he used a lubricant but I don't believe that he did (he's at lunch right now otherwise I'd ask him). I would just make sure that after every hunt to thoroughly clean the unit and rods with fresh water. I have one guy that will soak the unit in fresh water for about an hour after each hunt.

Either way, I'm sure White's will keep you covered.

Yes WD40 is a no-no for plastic. Washing in fresh water doesn't work nearly as well as using detergent and water. Dish soap works very well to remove the salt. I don't like the cam locks on water machines due to the salt and/or sand. I cut them off my water machines and just use the button spring clips. The little bit of coil wiggle isn't noticeable when swinging slowly through the water. JMTC

Just got off of the phone with Mary @ White's and they say the issue is the sand and they have sent me a replacement.. Thanks for all you help.
