Cam Locks

Shambler

New member
Anyone have any tricks to make the dang locks work better on the Explorer shafts? I stuck a small metal piece under the lock to increase tension. It helped but a few wiggles or bumps and it will separate at the top.

Shambler----I posted that very same question a short time back.--I've got to give Golden roy boy the credit for getting me on to the solution (thanks Ron).---I ended up just wrapping one circle of 2" black tape on the lower shaft where the camlock tightens-the shaft will JUST slide in over the camlock.--When the shaft clamps down on the tape, the shaft is then tight.--Don't use more than one wrap of tape though or it will bind.--You could do 2 side by side wraps of the 2" tape if you were going to do any shaft length adjustments.---Works like a charm for me!--------Del

Minelab will supply you with replacement cam lock pads.

Mine were a freebie.:)

Very easy to fit and away you go again.:beers:Jerry.

JBM------The problem is--my lower shafts were always somewhat loose even with the new camlocks on the different new Explorers I've had.---Seems to be a trait with Explorers (at least some of them)---Maybe they sold all the loose ones to me?---------Del

Perhaps you have been unlucky I have used Explorers from day one and only the top ones have needed changing on 2 of the machines.Jerry.

I'm going to check in on that with Minelab.---The lower shaft on this new E Trac I got is even a little loose (when the camlock is snapped shut).

be careful, the upper and lower are different.. they sent me a middle rod one, but was having trouble with the one on the control box.. there is a piece of metal that falls off of the rubber that gives it the pressure.. I cutout a piece of alumiunum brake silencer and glued 2 plies to it and its working good again
