i'm looking at a camera and i'm undecided to buy or not to buy. it's a 'nikon coolpix--8.1 megapixels-3x zoom--2.5 lcd screen. anyone on this forum know for sure if that one will take close-ups good enough to post on here??? i want clarity but can't spend $1000.00 for a good camera. any help appreciated. hh :minelab: :usaflag:

What is your budget? There are a few stores with the Nikon D40 outfit on sale for $449. Much better than a point and shoot!

go here: http://www.steves-digicams.com/hardware_reviews.html

and look up the camera you want to buy and LOOK at the pics, seeing is everything, same as a printer when you're evaluating them as well.

What's nice about this site and there are some other good ones out there too is that you can check out the close up pics and see how they look

I use a kodak Z710 that takes very good pics and video , I bought it last year and it was less than $200, ..LaDigger

I was looking for a beginner's camera for a 12 year old grandpup's Christmas gift. The one I settled on was the Nikon Coolpix L18. It seemed to have minimal review complaints on the quality control, good reports on picture quality, will focus to 6 inches in Macro mode, will take video strips, uses AA batteries and doesn't cost much. Walmart has them for under $100 this week ... who knows what the "clearance" prices will be! I gave Best Buy about $130 for mine because I wanted it fast, but I knew they were cheaper on the web. Oh, yeah - it has some kind of "camera shake" stabilizer in it too. Anyway, it looked like it was good enough to give away and I am kind of jealous because it will apparently do everything my 2-year old $400 camera will do, and more - and possibly more easily and better. Haven't seen any pix from it yet but the last I saw of it, the kid was trying to get some portraits of his pet rat. The little critter is probably still seeing stars. Good hunting.
